i like the terminal icon at the bottom of the desktop because it lets me know if i have a good connection to the internet . i go into tools in ie6 and have to set it manually every time i connect to the internet.
after i manually start it, it works fine but when i used all versions before xp i did not have this problem . i was wondering was there a setting in administrative tools that i need to fool with
i have administrator rights

Howdy and welcome to G2G:

Go into Control Panel>Network Connections..

Now, right click on your connection and select "properties"..

Near the bottom of that screen will be an option to show the connection in the Systray (Notification Area)..

Put a checkmark in that, apply and okay out !!

If you right-click on the taskbar itself, is there a checkmark beside "Lock Taskbar"??

If there is, uncheck it and try again..

Try logging on as the System Admin rather than just a user with admin rights..

One last thought here.. I don't use TweakUI so, not sure what is all included in there, but have you checked under "Networking" in there to see if there is an option for that ??
