looking good john...hclean.exe hasn't popped up yet - I'll leave the pc on all day and let u know. here's my log. I'd like to free up as much memory as i can so if u could advise best towards this outcome - that would be great. Would u recommend stopping spysweeper (it annoys me) and would uninstalling ewido have any consequences? i'll wait on ur desktop.ini fix. thanks m8.

Sure let me get back to ya on that ini prob may take a little bit to get an answer :tazz:

About ewido i think were done with that for know, you can skid that.

Spysweeper is one of the better applications out there for spyware and such but its up to you if you want to skid it as well.

When were finished here, i will show you a list that have great tools you can run, but first lets see if we can figure out that ini problem. :)

Do you have anything disabled with msconfig? If you do can you go back into there and turn everything back on.

I'm still working on that ini prob. we can see about that hclean here shortly.

Here's what i want you to try.

Please reboot your computer and when desktop ini notepad pops up copy the text and post it here, unless of course its empty. :tazz:

Something else i want you to do please.

Please download XP Service Pack 1 from here:

XP Service Pack 1a.

When this is done please go here.

Please go HERE (Microsoft website) using Internet Explorer (not Firefox or any other browser as they won't work)
  • Click on Windows Validation Assistant
  • Click on the Validate Now button.
  • Be patient while the ActiveX loads, do not click on any links.
  • Read the instructions on this page while it's loading. You will be prompted to install - click YES.
  • Enter your product key then click continue
  • When it says "Validation Complete" please click Continue to return to your previous activity
  • Copy what it says and paste it here.

I hate to do this but it's policy of geeks to go.

While we understand that you may not have been aware, your copy of Windows is not legitimate. Unfortunately, we are unable to help you any further on this site, as we have a strict policy we adhere to in only helping people who have legitmate copies of Windows. Thank you for understanding.
