My girlfriend just bought a new sony laptop. I want to set her up for wireless. She has only dial-up internet. Her new laptop does have built in wireless capability. I also will want to tie in her desktop. My first step will be to get a wireless router. What are the common pitfalls? What do I want to look for in a router? Can I use the same type of router with my cable internet?

Before you go any further, you need to look into broadband. You really aren't going to get anything out of a wireless connection, especially if you are going to network PCs on a dial-up.

Have you ventured the options available? Cable, DSL, Direct?
