Hello there. Once again someone using this family computer has downloaded something they shouldn't have. We have had 'Webrebates' on this machine before and I managed to get rid of it; however, it's back. :tazz: Anyway, we normally use Mozilla Firefox as a web brouser, we scan with Norton and Ad-aware weekly and I have a copy of CWShredder which is what I used to get rid of Webrebates before ( I think). One thing that's different than last time is now when I hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete I get lots more like: 'Bargains', '2052', 'Winservad' Winservsuit', 'istsvc' and two versions of 'Webrebates'. I'm pretty sure I remember how to fix it but I don't want to damage anything so here is my HiJack This Log:

Hello Dantheman,

Go to control panel, add/remove programs and uninstall any or all of the following:

TV Media
Windows Adcontrol
NewDotNet (new.net)
WebRebates
WhenU
180 Solutions
myway
mysearch
mywebsearch
viewpoint manager
viewpoint
wild tangent
weatherbug
gain
gator
gmt
wintools
any searchbar/toolbar besides google

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.
Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.
Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Thanks, I did as you said but in the Add/Remove programs, when i hit 'remove' to the 'MyWaySpeedbar' an error message came up that said: "Error:could not locate INF file 'C:\PROGRAMFILES\MYWAY\MYBAR\1.BIN\uninstall.inf'." Then when I hit remove for 'WebRebates (by TopRebates.com)'. The computer freezes. Anyway, then I fixed everything in the HijackThis Log and then into Safemode. No problems other than that. Here's my new log

Looks like some of them are coming back. Lets try something a little different.

First download the ISTbar removal tool from symantec here:

http://securityrespo...er/FxIstbar.exe

Double click the file that is downloaded and click Start. It will scan your for the ISTbar (which you have) and remove it.

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu). Be sure you're able to
view hidden files

Start Hijack This and remove the following entries.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: Class - {710124E2-2C23-AB52-94D8-490AC202AEAC} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ATLLN.DLL
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [¢‰¸ï0 4Ã4}¤Áœ5]C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe] C:\CHTUG.EXE
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.frame.crazywinnings.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.static.topconverting.com

Reboot normally.
Please download GetService.zip
Extract it to a new folder in the desktop. Double click on the Getservice.bat file to run it. This will create and open a text file named getservice.txt in the same folder. It will then open getservice.txt for you. getservice.txt will list all active Services. Copy and paste the contents of getservice.txt in your next reply here. From the moment you post your list, until you see a detailed fix written up, DO NOT reboot your system or log off. If you do, the service will have changed and the fix provided will not work

I am trying to figure out what Javapo.exe is. Your log says it's running as a service so unless you know what it is and can let me know then just sit tight and we will figure out if it needs to be removed.

Post a new hijack this log under the getservices log for me to please.

Did what you said and had no problems untl the 'GetService.zip' thingy. The download went fine but when I went to open Getservice.bat a message came up that said 'The PSSERVICE.EXE file is linked to missing export NETAPI32.DLL:NetServerEnum' . Then a .txt file opens up but it's blank.

I went to the start menu, find, files or folders and typed 'Javapo.exe'. Javapo is short for 'Java Poker'. I think this is part of a thing my dad has been doing with internet poker - even though I said he probably shouldn't. Anyway. . . I won't go into family problems lol. He goes to www.pokerroom.com and that's about all I know about it. I don't think it'll be usefull to you now but here's my HijackThis Log anyway.

We'll get it, I gotta figure out how to remove this ISTbar. What did the tool say after you ran it?

The tool didn't say anything, that's what's confusing about it. It only came up with that error message I mentioned before.

Just out of curriosity, what IS CWShredder, and why do I remember it having something to do with the IST Bar and Webrebates?

CWShredder is a removal utility that removes an infection called Cool Web Search. This infection has many different variants. It can't hurt to run it as you may be correct that the ISTbar is a variant of CWS.

Please Download CoolWebShredder, from http://www.geekstogo...=download&id=17 , Extract it & run the program. Make sure to update it first. Click the Next Button & let it scan. Make sure you let it fix all CWS Remnants. Afterwards, Please Post a fresh Hijack This log.

-=jonnyrotten=-

Oops, I see you already have CWShredder ;) I will get back to you on this, I gotta go check with some others, just hang in there :tazz: Lets get a fresh log too. Supposedly if Norton is updated and System Restore is turned off and you scan in safe mode it should remove webrebates, istbar, etc... Have you tried that?

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.
Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O15 - Trusted Zone: *.frame.crazywinnings.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.static.topconverting.com

Remove the following files in bold (if found):

C:\WINDOWS\SDKSA32.DLL
C:\CHTUG.EXE<<<were you able to find this one? If it doesn't delete try downloading the Killbox from here:

http://www.downloads...org/KillBox.zip

Unzip it and double click Killbox.exe. Put the full path to the file C:\CHTUG.EXE and delete it. Reboot normally and post new log.

Did everything you said, the files C:\Windows\sdksa32.dll and C:\chtug.exe don't seem to exist - even when 0put through kill box. Scaned with Hijack this, but log seems to be exactly the same as before. Is it time to go see a computer expert in person?

Click Here download the latest version of Hijack This (1.99.0). It's better able to catch the latest threats.

You have gotten infected with something new. I do know how to remove it but this is going to be a few steps, also I have found out how to remove the ISTbar, but we need to remove this new infection first. Please post a new log with the latest version of Hijack This and we will be off to a good start. You don't need to take your pc in, if you will just bear with the fact that this will take a few more steps and a little patience, we can help you clean it up.

I went to open Getservice.bat a message came up that said 'The PSSERVICE.EXE file is linked to missing export NETAPI32.DLL:NetServerEnum' . Then a notepad file opens up but it's blank.

Here's the latest log from the latest version of HijackThis
