All help very gratefully received. Have Panda Titanium 2004, MS antispyware beta, and S&D, none of which is touching this. S&D finds it but cant kill it (even letting it run on start up).

Cheers in advance. Paul

Hi there Excal. NP re that everyone is busy - at least my PC is still functionsal so I'm not that badly off!

Posted HJT log below. Before we get into this I should mention that I have tried to use Adaware to sort this, but whenever I try (safe mode or not) I get the blue screen and a re-start, at the point it is trying to update.

Otherthing I would say is that all the Neoteris stuff is a secure application thing I use for accessing my work network.

Also, lately, S&D keeps bringing up boxes to allow registry changes re quicktime. Not sure why - didnt know I used it!

All help appreciated!

Paul

A malicious .DLL file is disrupting the LSP chain on your computer. We need to get rid of it.

1. Please download LSPFix from here.
2. Run the LSPFix.exe that you have just finished downloading.
3. Check the I know what I'm doing box.
4. In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of gapsp.dll
5. Select every instance of gapsp.dll and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.
6. When you are done click Finish>>.
7. Reboot and please post a fresh HiJackThis log.

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

DOWNLOAD PROGRAMS

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Download and install CleanUp! Here*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.
We will use this program later.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

THE FIX

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4. Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

5. Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

6. Now open and run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During the scan when it ask if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK
  • When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

7. Next go to Control Panel click appearance and themes>click Display > Desktop Tab> click Customize Desktop > Web tab > Uncheck anthing in there if present.

8. Run the program CleanUp!

9. Reboot into normal mode and please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

10. Please post the Active scan log, Ewido log, smitfiles.txt log and a fresh HiJackThis log. Let me know how your computer is running.

Cheers.

I'm not having problems with pop ups or anything like that. There are only really two things I notice: occassionally when I shut down there will be something running called "sample"; and when I sometimes use dial up so am more concious about what is going in and out, the computer seems to be sending nearly as much as it is receiving.

Neither of these are huge problems, I am just being (possibly over) cautious.

Also there still seems to be some odd registry entires for things like online dating, [bleep], etc when I run search and destroy, which cant be fixed unless deleted manually. Is it safe for me just to delete the reg entries? For example:

Smitfraud-C.: User settings (Registry change, fixing failed)
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2083938511-3525061061-3765197081-1004\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\terra.hcworld.com\*!=W=4

Let me see something

Download WinPFind and extract it to your C:\ folder. This will create a folder called WinPFind in the C:\ folder.
don't do anything with it yet.

boot into safe mode

Inside c:\WinPFind is a file called WinPFind.exe. Double-click on this file to launch the program. Once it is launched, click on the Start Scan button and wait for it to finish. This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works as it can take a while, upwards to 30 minutes or more.

reboot

Please post the winpfind log

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.
