Hi,

I've been having problems with my browser popuping up to winfixer and winantispyware2005 sites. The popups are sporadic but quite annoying.

Steps I have done:

CleanUp!
Ad-aware SE
CWShredder
Spybot S&D
Windows Update (SP1)

I also have an up to date Norton AV Corporate Edition running at all times.

It seems that after completing the Spybot scan, something called winfixer was removed. The popup still occurs, but now the window that opens is blank (although the winfixer address still appears in the address bar). Still the same problem with about 5 winantispyware 2005 windows opening occasinally.

• Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
  
• POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

• First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:
  
  • Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
  • Choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
  • Uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
  • Close the window with ok
• Please RUN HijackThis.
  . Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
  
  
• Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

  • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
  • Press Enter.
• Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and DELETE them (if they are present):

1. Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
• This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
• After the files are extracted, please REBOOT your computer into Safe Mode.

3. Download and install CleanUp!

• Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
• Set the program up as follows:
• Click "Options..."
• Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
• Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

[*]Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

I currently have the ActiveScan running (looks like it will take awhile), so I will post the results in the morning when I wake up. Before I forget, I just wanted to note that everything up to the ActiveScan step went fine, except that after running HijackThis following the VundoFix there was no listing for "O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\tuvsr.dll"

However, there was an entry for the "O20 - Winlogon Notify: tuvsr - C:\WINDOWS\System32\tuvsr.dll" so I removed that. This did not result in a blue screen of death, but instead when I closed the programs there was no task bar (and I couldn't ctrl-alt-del) so I had to restart my computer manually.

It is not uncommon to have orphaned registry entries left over after the fix. All appears normal.

• Please RUN HijackThis.

I'll have to use the computer for awhile to be able to tell for sure, no popups yet so I've got my fingers crossed. I'll let you know within a day or two if I still have no popups.
