IE6 hogging resources

I am running IE6 on a Windows XP system. After booting up with no other applications open, IE6 appears to be using about 50% of the system resources. I observe this through the windaws task manager. The system crawls to a stop if another Explorer window in opened in another profile.
I've run all the anti spyware, antivirus and other system cleaning utilities recommended in the malware section of the forums and the system appears clean. I've also done the updates for Windows XP.
Could Internet Explorer be corrupted? Any ideas of what actions I should take to resolve the problem?

Hello and welcome to Geeks to Go.

A simple solution to your problem would be to switch to Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. You can download Mozilla Firefox from here http://www.mozilla.o...oducts/firefox/

It should solve all your problems, plus it is less infectable than Internet Explorer.

Also, just to make sure, have your computer scanned at these locations:

I would like to clarify the original problem after studying it again. EXPLORER.EXE is using 50% of the system resources after opening Internet explorer or changing profiles in Windows XP. I can close Internet explorer and EXPLORER.EXE continues to us 50% resources. After running all the recommended scanning tools I have the following hijack log

Since it is Explorer that is causing this, there is a good chance that it is malware, but this is not the correct forum to post a HijackThis! log or get assistance with malware problems.

Please start a new topic here

Read the "Malware Removal Forum Rules" at the top of the forum before starting a topic to solve your problem. If you still have problems after following the directions, start a topic and a malware expert will help you out as soon as possible. Please be patient though, it may take a day or so, since there are so many malware-related problems and not that many experts.
