I'm running both Command Antivurs and MacAfee VirusScan, and they've removed everything except these two little [removed language]. Command recognizes it, but just says I'm infected...no removal.

So...here's my HJT log. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to Geeks to Go domnahl.

You have a number of randomonly named files on your system. We like to start with an online virus and trojan scan. Even though you have antivirus software on your system, it can become corrupted by malware.

Please run a free online virus scan here (tick the "Auto Clean" checkbox):
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

And a free trojan scan here:
http://www.moosoft.com/

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and we'll remove what's left.

The online virus scan didn't work...it wouldn't run. The trojan scan came up empty, and The Cleaner is still running on my computer.

Here's the latest log:

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [kbfkvmel] C:\WINNT\system32\xobnvewc.exe

Reboot after doing so, preferably into safe mode and delete:
C:\WINNT\system32\xobnvewc.exe

Maybe the file is hidden.
Double Click on My Computer.
Click on Tools > Folder Options... in the menus.
Click on the View tab.
Select Show hidden files and folders under Hidden files and folders.
Click the OK button.
Click Apply to all folders.

Download the latest version of HijackThis (1.99) before posting a new log made with that.

Regards,

Pieter

I couldn't find the xobnvewc.exe file...it wasn't hidden, it just wasn't on the computer.

Here's the latest HJT with ver 1.99.

That is one clean log.

Can you tell us a bit more specific what the problem with Command is.
(Which files it can't remove)
They might be in a vault of another cleaner or your Restore Points for example.

Pieter

Alright...I like clean logs.

Command has 2 files in the scan results that it can't fix:

HelperInstaller.exe (says it's "a security risk or backdoor program", status "infected")

saie.exe (says it's "W32/Salm.A@bd", status "infected")

Ideas? Hints? Suggestions?

What Is It?
Internet Optimizer - saie.exe

What Does it Do?
Internet Optimizer is an error page hijacker. This is commonly installed by other malware packages like Moneytree. This system is known to download and install additional packages which you don't want. If you have this then you likely have a number of other things you'll need to remove.

Hello! We seem to be going around in circles...I did the housecall and moosoft scans a few posts back. Housecall would not run and the moosoft came up empty.

Then please post the full path to where Command finds these files.

They do not appear in your log, so it is doubtfull that they are active.

Well, I re-ran Command and it came back clean, no virus' found. However, when I restart Windows, I still get the dialog box the says a virus was found (the same SAIE.exe/W32Salm message that I originally got).

Apparently, then, the actual virus is gone? And I just have to clear the pop-up notification window from Command?

Can you see if you can find the file manually?
Typically it would be here:
C:\winnt\system32\saie.exe

If you can not find it, it may be a hidden file.
To show hidden files/folders:
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

Took me awhile to get back to this.

This is what I found by searching:

saie.exe.Quarantined (in Command folder)
SAIE removal.txt (in My Documents\Security)
saie1101.exe (c:\Windows\bundles)
saie.log (C:\WINNT\system32)
saieau.dat (C:\WINNT\system32)
saie_gdf.dat (C:\WINNT\system32)
saie_kyf.dat (C:\WINNT\system32)

But the virus scans still come up clean.

Remove this folder:
c:\Windows\bundles
completely.

I think that will be the end of your messages.

OK, I've removed the folders and I don't get any hits on the virus scans anymore.

Should I remove the other files found in the search (.dat's and .log)?

Any idea why the antivirus programs can't delete/overwrite/quarantine this thing?

Thanks again; hopefully this did it.
