Hi,
I'd been working w/ someone earlier on getting rid of the about:blank trojan, but haven't heard anything in a while, so I figured I'd start a new post.

Now, I am aware that all that R1 and R0 stuff is garbage and should be taken out, and this has been done about 6 times, but they keep coming back. I've run just about every tool, using safe mode and non-safe mode, rebooting, rerunning the tools, etc, etc, round and round, but can't get rid of this trojan.

Whenever I finish running the utilities, and reboot, IE will appear to be working fine for about 2 minutes, then I'll get a popup, which seems to be the key...because it's at that point that everything reverts back to about:blank.

Can anyone out there tell me how to get rid of this thing for good? I'm not a total newbie, and can edit a registry (and have actually tried that, but it didn't work), but I'm about ready to just reformat the hard drive and start over....

anyone? Beuller? anyone?
Thanks
mike

This is a variant of CoolWebSearch that redirects your homepage to about:blank. It also installs a malicious service that prevents it from being fixed. We need to eliminate that service.
  • Obtain list of irregular services:
  • Please download ServiceFilter.
  • Unzip ServiceFilter.zip to a convenient folder like C:\ServiceFilter.
  • Navigate to where you unzipped it and double-click on ServiceFilter.vbs.
  • If you have an active anti-virus it might prevent the script from starting. Please allow the script to run.
  • It will open a text file (POST_THIS.TXT) that lists all of the irregular services.
  • Press Ctrl + A simultaneously to select all of the text.
  • Copy and paste the whole thing into your next post.
  • A copy of POST_THIS.TXT is saved to where ServiceFilter.vbs was saved just in case you accidentally close out of it.

In Taskmanager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) stop these processes:
winbx.exe
adddz32.exe

Download and run About:Buster from:
http://www.majorgeek...wnload4289.html
It usually takes two runs to get cleaned.

Reboot and post a new HijackTHis log (version 1.99 please) so we can clean out the remains.

Regards,

Pieter

oops, forgot to mention that I didn't run the about:buster, since those programs weren't there.....I have run it several times before though, and it doesn't seem to work. The trojan always comes back after a reboot.

Download and unzip:
http://www.downloads...org/KillBox.zip
Run killbox and paste each of these lines into the box, select delete on reboot then press the red X button, when it says reboot now, say no and continue to paste the lines into the box in turn and follow the above procedure every time, after the last line has been pasted let it reboot.

C:\WINDOWS\winbx.exe
C:\WINDOWS\adddz32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipoo.dll

Then reboot and post a new log.

Regards,

Pieter
