I have not been able to use the IE address bar for around three weeks. If I enter an address (I.E. WWW.Yahoo.Com) the address highlights and I get no status in the bottom left corner of IE. Just today I found that the page I am entering does pull up but it takes around 3 to 4 minutes to post on the screen and removes whatever web page you are viewing at that time. Now if I use the links in my favorites file everything works fine. Also in My Computer or Windows Explorer windows it takes about three minutes for them to open. I have run Ad-Adware SE and Sypbots S&D after updating weekly and both find two or three links or no spyware. I also downloaded CounterSpy and it did find three non threating spyware links which I removed but again IE still doing the same issue. I also have Windows Antispyware (Beta) program on my computer but it finds no spyware. Updated Windows updates no help. Ran Cleanup no help. Ran CWShredder which removed a ton of items but still same issue. Of course I rebooted after each process ran but no help. So now I am posting my HijackThis log. Whatever spyware or maybe virus is on my computer I have not been able to find and it is driving me crazy. I am very careful what sites I use and do not download file attachments unless I know the person sending or I know the attachment is being sent.

Please move HijackThis to another location, preferably c:\Program Files\HijackThis. Anywhere is fine, other than your Desktop or a Temp folder. If HijackThis is in a temporary folder you run the risk of accidentally deleting the backups or it clutters your desktop with all the backups.
If you use Windows XP it might be that you just double clicked on the file HijackThis.exe, but that only extracts the file to a temporary folder. Please select the file and Extract it to a folder.

How do you make a permanent folder:

Click "My Computer", then "C:\" and then on "Program Files".
In the menu bar, "File"->"New"->"Folder".
That will create a folder named "New Folder", which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".
Now you have "C:\Program Files\HijackThis". Put your HijackThis.exe there.

You might want to save this page on your favorites, so you can find it again when you return. You can also click on your name and click on "Find All Posts" to find your thread.

Download a different browser like Opera, Mozilla or Firefox. By running these browsers we can determine if your problem is related to Internet Explorer or not. If it is not, logic would say that these browsers don't work as expected either.

Check your computer with the following free anti-virus/anti-trojan products. If the service provides a log, please save them and post it in a next post.

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location, so you can delete it yourself.

There isn't much wrong with your computer based upon this log, so we will try some things. Understand that all I am telling you here to fix is not malware. Your problems have to come from somewhere, and we can try it out in this way. Ergo it is imperative that you have backups in HijackThis. Other wise you cnnot return the settings.

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.

Then close all windows, and browsers, except HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to "Fix checked". Restart your computer and post a new log in this thread.

From chat I understand that you have enough diskspace and 512 MB of RAM, so the slowness is not related to that. Your recycle bin is empty. I see that you use Norton.If you have Norton Utilities installed, right-click on the Recycle Bin and click Empty Norton Protected Recycle Bin. Defragment your hard disc.

Please move HijackThis to another location, preferably c:\Program Files\HijackThis. Anywhere is fine, other than your Desktop or a Temp folder. If HijackThis is in a temporary folder you run the risk of accidentally deleting the backups or it clutters your desktop with all the backups.
If you use Windows XP it might be that you just double clicked on the file HijackThis.exe, but that only extracts the file to a temporary folder. Please select the file and Extract it to a folder.

How do you make a permanent folder:

Click "My Computer", then "C:\" and then on "Program Files".
In the menu bar, "File"->"New"->"Folder".
That will create a folder named "New Folder", which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".
Now you have "C:\Program Files\HijackThis". Put your HijackThis.exe there.

You might want to save this page on your favorites, so you can find it again when you return. You can also click on your name and click on "Find All Posts" to find your thread.

Download a different browser like Opera, Mozilla or Firefox. By running these browsers we can determine if your problem is related to Internet Explorer or not. If it is not, logic would say that these browsers don't work as expected either.

Check your computer with the following free anti-virus/anti-trojan products. If the service provides a log, please save them and post it in a next post.

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location, so you can delete it yourself.

There isn't much wrong with your computer based upon this log, so we will try some things. Understand that all I am telling you here to fix is not malware. Your problems have to come from somewhere, and we can try it out in this way. Ergo it is imperative that you have backups in HijackThis. Other wise you cnnot return the settings.

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.

Then close all windows, and browsers, except HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to "Fix checked". Restart your computer and post a new log in this thread.

From chat I understand that you have enough diskspace and 512 MB of RAM, so the slowness is not related to that. Your recycle bin is empty. I see that you use Norton.If you have Norton Utilities installed, right-click on the Recycle Bin and click Empty Norton Protected Recycle Bin. Defragment your hard disc.

Sorry, I forgot to tell you that I tried Mozilla Firefox browser. So far I can type web sites on the address bar and go to the site without any hesitation.

I also went back into MSCONFIG and turned off all the stuff I did not want to start when I reboot the computer. There is one line in MSCONFIG that had a check mark but was blank after that. I have been told in the past that most of the time that could be a virus or spyware and that they blank the line so you do not know what is running.

I looked at my first post I saw that I did not mention that some of my icons on the desk top have the genetic Windows icons instead of their normal icons: these are Roxie Easy CD and DVD Creator, Adobe Photoshop, HP Image Zone, MusicMatch, Muvee, Zone.com Deluxe Games. Before all this started they were ok.

Thanks for all the help so far. In case you have not noticed I have a fair knowledge of computers. I repair computers (hardware) and laser jet printers for two warranty companies. I tried a lot of steps prior to asking for advice in this forum. But I did all the steps, you gave to try, again just in case I forgot something or I did wrong the first time. I have been thinking of printing out the Windows Registry and going over each line looking for something that does not belong. Of course if I do this I am going to backup all my info again in case I goof it up and have to reinstall Windows. But I am almost ready to reinstall XP and start over. Of course that will help find the issue I am having and keep it from happening again in the future.

Do you have a restore point that you can get back to before all this started? If so, it might same you reinstall time. We can take a look at the state of the computer at that "time"
