I have had a problem with Winfixer 2005 popups. I have tried SpySubtract (identified vundo trojan), AdAware (identified malware and winfixer 2005), Trendmicro scans, and Symantec Vundo removal tool and still have a problem with WinFixer popups. I also tried following the instructions you posted for other people with similar problems and stopped when I realized that I wasn't sure which file was the culprit when it asked for a second location. My computer is my life, please help.

1. When it is mentioned that you will have to search for it, you are supposed to use the Windows Search function Start>>Search>>For Files and Folders

2. In the other example, you are supposed to use Wndows Explorer (Windows Key +E) and navigate to the indicated folder and DELETE it with all its content as mentioned in the text.

1. Download the .exe format of Cleanup by Steven Gould from :HERE

• A window will open and choose SAVE, then DESKTOP as the destination.
  
• On your Desktop, click on Cleanup40.exe icon.
  
• Then, click RUN and place a checkmark beside "I Agree"
  
• Then click NEXT followed by START and OK.
  
• A window will appear with many choices, keep all the defaults as set when the Slide Bar to the left is set to Standard Quality.
  
• Click OK
  
• Finally click "CleanUp"

2. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Open Killbox

Check the following boxes:

Standard File Kill
End Explorer Shell While Killing file

Copy & paste the full path of the file below into the Killbox topmost box.

C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\0ZQFQ9MH\WinFixer2005ScannerInstall[1].exe

With the full path to the file name in the topmost textbox, Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes

It may not delete.

Use killbox to delete the file you were not able to delete as follows:

Open Killbox

Check the following boxes:

Delete on Reboot

With the full path to the file name in the topmost textbox. Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes

A second message will ask to Reboot now? you will need to click YES

Note: Killbox will let you know if the file does not exist.

After the reboot scan with hijackthis and fix the following if it is still listed

1. I need to make sure that all files are made visible:

*Please download
xphidden.zip to your desktop.
*Double click on the XPHidden.zip to open the file
*then double click on xphidden.reg to add the information to your registry.
*This will cause all super-hidden files and protected system files to be visible.

2. Please download and run Advanced Process Termination from HERE

Check the list of running processes on your machine for any of the following:

I any are found, attempt to terminate them by clicking on the Kill6 button

Then return to HJT and attempt to remove the 04 entry by runnning HJT, placing a checkmark beside the offending 04 entry and, with all windows closed, click Check Fixed and EXIT the program

3. REBOOT your system

4. Post a fresh HJT log
