I'm having problems with winfix2005 and 'valumonde' (not sure of spelling). I've followed all pre-post instructions as best I can. What follows is my hijack log......Thanks in advance

• After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
• Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
• Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Find and delete this folder (if it is still there):
C:\Program Files\PartyPoker <= this folder

Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Browse to the next file, submit it on that site and let it scan:

Find and delete this folder (if it is still there):
C:\Program Files\PartyPoker <= this folder

Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

First thanks for the reply and the help. I appreciate it. Secondly, this is a good news, bad news reply....first the bad

When I ran Killvundo.bat, it worked fine until the second time I needed to hit enter. At that point, the computer froze and I did a reboot. The process worked through the second step of killvundo this time. When I got to the hijack portion of the process, not all the files listed in the directions were present. I selected two, couldn't find any under C:\... then decided it might be better to run the process again from the beginning. I rebooted, ran killvundo, and when it got to the second step, the reverse named file, the program indicated the file couldn't be located.

Now the good news... Thinking that I could 'reinfect' the computer by rebooting normally and connecting to the internet, I did so. No sign of winfix2005 or other web page redirects. The problem seems to have been taken care of in spite of the above anomalies.

One other note, when I ran ActiveScan, the scan always hangs at C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntdll.dll

• Don't forget to re-hide all files and folders. To re-hide all files and folders:
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading deselect "Show hidden files and folders".
  • Check the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
• This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. Read the article behind this link "How did I get infected". If you don't already have them, you need an antivirus that is updated, a good firewall for example Kerio Personal Firewall or ZoneLabs Zone Alarm, a spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads and spyware detection (Ad-aware SE and SpyBot S+D). All of these have good free versions available... be very cautious about any security software that advertises in popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually useless, but also often have malware in them....
  
  Instead of Internet Explorer, use a different browser like Opera, Mozilla or Firefox.
  
  Last, but not least, you need to keep Windows and Internet Explorer up to date by getting all the latest security patches that protects your computer.
  
  This can be accessed by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and following the prompts.

Dick,

Thanks for all your patience and help. I've employed a firewall, antivurus, and pop-up blocker for a couple of years, this one (Winfix) seemed to make it's way through the Norton Suite. I'll look at evaluating another product. Thanks again, If I could, I'd take ya out for a beer.
