I've tried all the suggested items per Geeks to Go...the antivirus program ewido stops the virtumonde spyware from going when i first open internet explorer, but then i still get popups...it's not cleaned/deleted. Ewido calls accole.dll the file that needs to be cleaned...

I can't get rid of this thing!

Hi excal, sorry about the word wrap thing...i'll fix that next post.

I'm having an unusal problem before i can try your suggested procedures. I can't get into safe mode for some reason.

First, I tried getting into safe mode by pressing f8 on boot and selecting it in the list of xp boot options. I would select safe mode as your instructions say and i would only get a black screen.

Then, I rebooted the computer and tried pressing f8 again to get the xp boot options list, and i would just get a black screen - it seems like everything was still operating, but if i pressed enter on the black screen, it would boot to the normal xp welcome screen.

I did some research and found suggestions to repair my xp installation with the xp cd...i tried booting from my xp cd but it just gave me a blank screen and then eventually showed up at the xp welcome screen.

Then, I tried entering my bios to see the boot order...now i can't even enter my bios....I press F2 to enter the bios but it just goes to a black screen...if i CTRL+ALT+DEL, it restarts as if it was there the whole time waiting for me to make some bios changes...???

So i updated my bios (from Phoenix A04 to A07) and I still get the same blank screen.

Have you ever heard of this? Do you have any suggestions?

On some cases of Vundo this happens, we are trying to get a fix for this, but as of right now there is none. There are a couple things we can try.

can you do this for me please:

Go to start then run. Copy and paste this in:

regedit /e c:\safeboot.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot"

No open My computer, then Cdrive.

In there you will see a file called safeboot.txt, please copy and paste that on to this post.


1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
2. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
3. Under System Startup, click Edit. This opens the file in Notepad ready for editing.

Go into your C:\WINDOWS\system folder and look for any file named elocca, regardless of the extension, and delete it. after that is done, try to boot into safe mode.

Oh, and ewido still finds accole.dll and alerts me to clean...

If you use Windows XP, Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

• Open HiJackThis
• Click on the configure button on the bottom right
• Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
• Click on "Delete File on Reboot"
• Navigate to this file - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\accole.dll
• Double click on that file.
• HJT asks you if you want to reboot, now. Click "no".
  
  Do that for the following files also, until you get to the last one, then click "yes" when HJT asks you to reboot.

Excal, I did not have the system files un-hidden...I unchecked that box and then found elocca.inf and deleted it...rebooted...found it again along with a new variation (elocca2.inf) and deleted both...and rebooted...this time accole.dll was gone, both eloccas were gone, and I did not get any warnings from ewido that accole.dll (or any file for that matter) needed to be cleaned.

I still can't get into windows safe mode however...

Do i need to delete this backup file a special way?

Right click on the Microsoft/Giant AntiSpyware icon (looks like a target) and click on Security Agents Status (Enabled) and click on Disable Real-time Protection. To re enable it after the fix, you follow the same steps but click on Enable Real-time Protection.

open Hijackthis and do a scan. Please check off the following items:

click FIX CHECKED then close Hijackthis

You don't have to worry about that backup file, its not dangerous. We will delete that later.

As for the safe mode problem, we are still trying to work that out.
