Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Alt-Backspace fill problem!

Hi-

This is very frustrating. Upon selecting a layer's content, i press alt-backspace to get it to fill my foreground color but instead it fills the selected content white, which isnt even a color on my palette! Why is photoshop doing this?
