My computer was subjected to a coolwwwsearch attack. After applying the tools that you recommended in your pages (adaware, cleanup, spybot, CWshredder, ewido, trendhousecall, trojanhunter) the CoolWWWSearch. HomeSearch is still persisting. It is detected by spybot, but not eliminated since it is detected as located in a running process, even if spybot is runned in startup.
Spybot apparently gives the location:
CoolWWWSearch.HomeSearch: Data (File, nothing done)
C:\WINDOWS\xahkq.dat
A few additional details over those given in my registration:
I have windows service pack 1, but tried a while ago to install service pack 2 - it was installed partially. It appears that any automatic updates by Windows through the internet are failing. I intend to uninstall service pack 2 and then reinstall it again, but only after eliminating all viruses.
Bad news: It seems that a new virus entered my computer while downloading TrojanHunter! the virus is called "Backdoor.Graybird" and was detected by the symantec antivirus. This virus attacked again during/after a startupand was again detected. How to notify TrojanHunter?
