Hello everybody,
My AVG antivirus keeps poping up this VIRUS DETEDCTED message :

while opening file: c:\windows\system32\rdriv.sys
Trojan horse Generic.GM

No matter what i do it keeps coming back, and i looked at this forum at similiar
posts to mine and tried what i learned from it and nothing...
did the whole booting from Safe Mode, then rdrivRem, and then
ewido, microsoft antispyware, ad-aware, clean-up, spybot, cwshredde,
and 2 online scanners
.. and nothing helped.. :tazz: :)

i'll post my hijackthis.log after all the scans :

Hello and welcome! :)

Please follow all instructions as specified. Print these instructions to ensure all are followed.

Please download the following programs, but do not run them yet:

* rdrivRem.zip
  • Unzip it to your desktop.
* Update Ewido Security Suite to the latest definitions.

* CleanUp!
  • Install it.
* Killbox by Option^Explicit
  • Save it to your desktop.
Please launch Notepad and paste in the following filepath, save the file to your desktop as filepathsforKillbox:

C:\WINDOWS\windowsupdates.exe

Click Start => Run => and type in;

services.msc

Click "OK".

In the services window find service; Windows Updates

Right-click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then "Ok". Exit the Services utility.
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Delete an NT service"
  • Copy and paste this in: Windows Updates
  • Click "ok", then reboot
Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

1.) Please double-click rdrivRem.bat to run the program - follow the instructions on the screen. After it's complete, rdriv.txt will be created in the rdrivRem folder.

2.) Double-click the Ewido Security Suite icon to run the program.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose "remove", then put a check next to "Perform action on all infections" in the left corner of the box so you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time. Click OK.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
  • Exit Ewido
3.) Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

4.) After Cleanup! is finished, run HijackThis. Place a check next to the following items, if found, and click FIX CHECKED:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {CFBFAEA6-B9D4-11D0-9C78-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
O19 - User stylesheet: (file missing)
O19 - User stylesheet: (file missing) (HKLM)
O23 - Service: Windows Updates - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\windowsupdates.exe

Close HiJackThis.

5.) Run Killbox.exe.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Open the notepad you saved earlier. Press CTRL + A to select all file paths in the notepad, then press CTRL + C which will copy all of them to the clipboard.

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "OK" at any "PendingRenameOperation" prompt. If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

After computer has restarted continue with the rest of the instructions:

6.) Make sure your firewall is on. Make sure you can turn it off then turn it back on and that nothing is greyed out.
Also, Make sure your Anti-Virus program is working properly - you can turn on and off auto-protect, etc.

7.) Run BOTH of these online virus scans (NOT at the same time!):
ActiveScan
TrendMicro's HouseCall - check "Auto Clean"

Save the results from ActiveScan.

I need you to post the contents of rdriv.txt, the log from Ewido, the log from ActiveScan, and a new HiJackThis log into this topic. :tazz:

Hi again.

Please download and run blacklite
F-Secure Blacklight: http://www.f-secure....light/try.shtml
leave [X]scan through windows explorer checked,
click > scan > If any items are found click > next and reboot.

How to use F-Secure Blacklight
http://www.europe.f-...lacklight/help/

Next--

Please do an online virus scan with Panda ActiveScan Here. You need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
  • Once you get to the Panda site, scroll down a bit and click on Scan your PC
  • A new window will appear; click on Check Now!
  • A new window will appear; fill in the boxes (Country, State, email addy)
  • Click on Scan Now! >
If you have never used ActiveScan before, you will be prompted to install an ActiveX control (asinst.cab) : click on Install. Panda will install the component, and then install the latest signature files.
  • From "Select a device to scan...", choose "My Computer"
  • Allow the scan to run. It'll take a while.
  • When complete, click on "See Report", and then on "Save report"; save it to a convenient location.
  • I will need you to post that report in your next reply; simply open the text file, then copy/paste the content here.
Please go to the TrendMicro website HERE
  • Click Check my PC now
  • On the next page it will verify that Trendmicro scan can be run.
  • There should be 4 green checkmarks, if any of them stay a red X please let me know which one(s)
  • Read the agreement, the click continue with Next Step
  • Wait for the scanner to load, if you get a security warning about the Trend-Micro applet, click YES
  • It will install "Core-Packages", then please run the scan - let me know how many infected items it found and if any of them couldn't be cleaned and the name/location

I've updated my XP to SP2 because i had troubles with ICS (my sister cumputer)
but still i'm having some problems with it but never mind.
and about the entry u've asked me about, well, 192.116.202.99,192.116.192.9 are
the DNS address of my ISP which are configured to my network card.
i'm afraid my whole computer is screwd now, but it ran PREFECTLY flawless for 5
years now, and boom, now i have this crappy trojan..
at least I have to know how to repair this if it comes again..

Run a scan with HiJackThis and check the following objects for removal:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System Updates Service] updates.pif
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [System Updates Service] updates.pif
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [System Updates Service] updates.pif
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [System Updates Service] updates.pif

Close ALL open windows except for HiJackThis and hit FIX CHECKED.

Once in Safe Mode, go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files - option.

Next, navigate to C:\ - drive and do a search for the following file:

updates.pif

Delete if present.

Empty recycle bin.

Reboot back into normal mode, rehide hidden files and post a fresh HiJackThis log. :tazz:

Ok, just noticed you have a bad service running.

Click Start => Run => and type in;

services.msc

1) Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

2) Save it to your desktop.

3) Run Killbox.exe.

4) Select "Delete on Reboot".

5) Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them then press CTRL + C

C:\WINDOWS\windowsupdates.exe

6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

7) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

Reboot. Once done:

Please download Rootkit Revealer (link is at the very bottom of the page)
  • Unzip it to your desktop.
  • Open the rootkitrevealer folder and double-click rootkitrevealer.exe
  • Click the Scan button (bottom right)
  • It may take a while to scan (don't do anything while it's running)
  • When it's done, go up to File > Save. Choose to save it to your desktop.
  • Open rootkitrevealer.txt on your desktop and copy the entire contents and paste them here
