This may be a strange request but do you know of anyone who still helps people with Windows 3x problems. I have an old one that I use for its Word Processing Features and it has problems now. Meanwhile I'm on a search for something that I can use on my Windows 98SE.

Hi waynf...

It's been 15 years since I've even thought about 3.1 so I probably wouldn't be much help there, but if it's a word processor for 98SE you are looking for, try Wordpad. It's a stripped down version of MSWord.

Click Start and point to Programs then Accessories and click Wordpad.

I've got a few antiques around that I've installed 3.11 on so I might be able to help a little. BTW the only difference between 3.1 and 3.11 is, I beleive, one file that was removed in 3.1, it was in DOS, because of copyright infringement, and replaced in 3.11 by one with the same function but some differences.

The problem I have with Windows 3.1 is this. On this computer there is also Dynacash Accounting system and a Word Processor. I use the Dynacash toa keep trackof my expenses. Anyway a week ago I turned on the computer which automaticall opens in Dynacash and I received a message "Batch File Missing:" I went into setup and tried restoring defaults and then screen went blank and at this time my keyboard lights (upper right above number pad) kept flashing and the fan motor kept going up and down. And that's where it stand right now.

These older programs may be operating in dos mode and the older dos would keep backups of the bat, inf and sys files. If you know the filename look for one with the extension .old, there were a couple of other extensions used too. They may not be in the windows folder, they may be in dos. To restore them just change the extension back to what you want.
