When I run a system scan, it shows that Adware.aurareco is the security risks but it only give me the option to Review and Not Remove the security risk. I also keep gettng these quick popups on my computer...like a flash for a page to open and then it goes a way. How do I fix my computer???? Please help.

Hi and welcome to Geeks To Go!

HijackThis logs are the weapon we use to dectect malware around here, so post a log please (instructions are at bottom) in the following forum!
before we can help you, please attempt the following, these will help us eliminate the easy spyware problems first, making
the serious fix, as short as possible...

1: Please download Ad-aware and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go Here to download the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware at for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Download and install Spybot S&D. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button.Install any updates that are available.

Now click Mode menu and choose 'Advanced Mode'. Next click on Immunize to your left. Click the Immunize button (green cross) on top to Immunize your computer - you should do this each time there is an update. Now go to Tools->Resident and make sure that TeaTimer is checked. What this will do is monitor any system/registry changes and will ask you for permission to change any of these settings.

Now click on the 'Spybot-S&D' option on the top left to go back to the main screen. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the 'Fix Selected Problems' button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

Now the good stuff...
Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware

on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Post that log here!

Please print out or save this page to your desktop in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Notes
While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy
Downloads
Download, install, and update Ewido Security Suite
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be a big E icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update

In the explorer Window put C:\WINDOWS\system32\yxzjte.exe in the "open" box, and then click Open
When prompted if you want to reboot click YES

Boot Into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

View Hidden Files and Folders
Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

Run Downloaded Program #1
1. Launch Nailfix.exe
2. Click "Next" in the setup, then make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked and click "Finish".
3. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Run Downloaded Program #2
Run Ewido Security Suite . Set the program up as follows:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Close ewido security suite.

Please print out or save this page to your desktop in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

View Hidden Files and Folders
Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

Potential Uninstallations
Click > Start > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs and uninstall the following programs:
I HIGHLY reccomend getting rid of kazaa! it is one of the most INFECTIOUS P2P Applications around. Your safest Bet is the Latest Limewire installation.

Start HijackThis Fix
Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [180ClientStubInstall] "C:\WINDOWS\stubinstaller6282.exe"
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.

File/Folder Deletions
Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist.

C:\WINDOWS\INF\alchem.inf
C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\BTLINK
C:\Program Files\Kazaa\bdcore.dll
C:\Program Files\Kazaa\bdcore.dll.updpnd
C:\WINDOWS\stubinstaller6282.exe

AND NOW......................

Congratulations Your Log is Clean!!

If you are still having trouble, please dont continue with these instructions just yet. LET ME KNOW!

Otherwise, we have a few clean up items to deal with.

1. System Restore
Now that we know your system is clean, we want to purge any potentially infected restore points. To do that, complete the following:

Turn off System Restore by Clicking Start > right-click My Computer and then click Properties. Click the System Restore tab > Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives". Click Apply. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this. Click OK.

To re-enable this function - simply uncheck this same box, and click "apply" and "ok"

2. Reset Hidden Files & Folders
Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is UNchecked. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are invisible. CHECK the Hide protected operating system files option.

Also Consider...
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
You should also have a good firewall. Here are 3 free ones available for personal use:How is she running now? Any further problems? If not, Good work, and Happy Computing!

[b]Please reply once more so we know you have read these measures.

Ok, before i go through those instructions, i noticed in my add/remove programs that "The Best Offers" has showed up as a program. I tried to uninstall it and it takes you to a website and you have to download the uninstaller, etc..but after you do that, it is still on the computer...i guess this is something new to tackle. Now with kazaa, i have tried to completely get rid of it before. It does not show up under add/remove programs and we haven't tried to open it in a while. I just tried and you can't open it. It says "couldn't load library topsearch.dll". I don't know how to completely get rid of kazaa. We haven't used it in ages. I'm not sure if your instructions above include them. Currently i'm using a program called WinMx and not Limewire. Is that safe?

Download KazaaBegone http://www.greyknigh...KazaaBegone.zip. This uninstaller will remove all elements from all Kazaa versions, as well as all of the bundled software that comes with it. Warning: This version has a bug that can cause your Internet connection to be broken when removing New.Net, WebHancer or CommonName. Before using KazaaBegone, download WinsockFix http://www.greyknigh...sockFix.sfx.exe just in case you need it (if it breaks your internet connection) extract the files, Run it winsockfix.exe and click FIX WINSOCKS if theres a problem

Let me know how everything goes with winsockfix/kazaa be gone, and then In HijackThis, go to config>misc tools>"Open Uninstall Manager" and "save List.." - post that list here.

Ok, I did all the steps up until system restore. I ran Kazaabegone and it removed anything related to kazaa and i ran winsockfix. Then i ran kazaabegone again and it didn't find any files related to kazaa, but when I look under Add/Remove Programs "The Best Offers" is still there.

Also under the File/Folder deletions, i did not delete alchem yet under the file you told me C:\Windows\inf\alchem.inf. I have two files and i did not know which one to delete. One is C:\Windows\inf\alchem (without a file extension and it says it would open in notepad) and the other is C:\Windows\ing\alchem.PNF

look in the C:\program Files\ folder for something that could be related to "The Best Offers" and delete it. If you are unsure post any irregular foldernames here. If we can delete the folder thats holding it there i will instruct you on how to remove the add/remove entry.

I didn't find any programs that could be related. Here is a list, maybe you can pick up something I didn't see.
In program files, I looked under the folder accessories and found another folder named Hyperterminal. I don't know what that is. There is also a pcximp32.flt file in the same folder.
There is also another folder called Complus Applications.
Another called PestPatrol. I think that program is another one to scan the computer, but i'm not sure.
I couldn't find anything with The Best Offers. I'm not sure what the above applications are...they didn't look suspicious but I thought you would be able to tellme. Thanks.
