Hi

Ad-Aware and Spybot are both hanging. Ad-Aware is hanging while 'deep scanning registry'. It finds 5 critical objects in the registry right before it hangs, but it happens so fast I cant stop the scan before it freezes. I've run all the cleaners and Ewido and Trojan Hunter, and my HJT log is here. Please help I'd like to get my machine finally cleaned out.

BTW I managed (after about 20 tries) to stop Ad-Aware right before it froze. I deleted the entries, 3 of which were Aurora.blah (i can look up the log if you need it). However it still hangs during the deep registry scan. If 'deep scan registy' is skipped everything runs fine though. Weird.

We can find the Ad-aware log later if needed,, Lets go with this,

Copy everything in the quote box below (starting with REGEDIT4) and paste it into Notepad. Go up to "File > Save As", then click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as fixware.reg on your desktop.

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

* Save it to your desktop.

* Run Killbox.exe.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them then press CTRL + C

Make sure you are disconnected from the Internet and that all programs and windows are closed. Run HiJackThis. Place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

Close HiJackThis.

Now lets check some settings on your system.

• Go to Start > Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections
• Then right click on your Default Connection
  • Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
• Left click on Properties.
• Click the Networking tab.
• Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item.
• Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically.
• Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.

Make sure to reboot and post back a new HiJackThis log into this topic.

OK did the first part. The second bit, the menus were all different and I have a wireless connection, but I found the TCP/IP entry under the general tab, and the button for Obtain DNS Servers Automatically was already pushed.

Incidentally, there is a (i think) new folder on C:\ called !Submit and its contains to .exe 's "msexnpfi.exe" and "rdsndin.exe". Im pretty sure that was not there last time I looked.

Please use the following suggestion to help prevent reinfection

First Off,
*Be sure and reset your hidden Files and Folders*

Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep AD-Aware. and Spybot 1.3 handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
Click Start | Run | type in cleanmgr | OK

Let it scan your system for files to remove.

Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.

Press OK to remove them.


Remeber to Check Windows for updates
