Topic- Have to be careful of [Unknown Devices] –

Yes you do need to be careful - I would only be concerned with the USB [Non Present Devices] - They will generally be items that you can identify - Mainly because you almost always do the installing -

The items in [Non Plug n Play] are the ones to be careful with - Most of them - you probably do not recognize - As more than likely you may not know that they are there - Many times when you use a CD to install a program - the CD contains a few extra items that are installed with the Main Application -

And sometimes when you use [Freeware] - some items are attached - So you do not know what you need or even what some of them are -

Some of those items are a part of Windows – These need to be kept –

And are part of items that you downloaded – So yes you have to be careful -

Like I have said before - Only work on 1 problem at a time - Only do 1 item at a time - Establish a restore/recovery Point - And Keep Notes -

Just keep in mind - that the [Non Present Devices] can be items that you want to keep - They are just not Connected at the moment -

Like your printer is not connected until you want to use it - There will be a [Non Present Printer Support] shown - but will transpose into a [Present Printer Support] when Turned - ON -

Do you have any other problems or is PC OK -

say, I think the unknown device is my USB data cable for my phone. I've lost it's drivers, and I don't know what make it is...... I bought it off a sidewalk in Bangkok. I don't think it's branded.

There is a similar problem of "USB stops working, won't work at all " on the VIA website. Can you check it out and tell me whether it's relevant?

I can look into it – Need info on your Phone – [Make] – [Model] – and any info on the [Data Cable] & how was it installed – [By you] – [Someone else] – What media was the [Installation/drivers] on – Disk –CD – Look for any markings – letters – numbers on the [Data Cable] – Were you ever able to make use of it – Were you able to [Sync] the data from phone to PC - & could you dial from PC – Do you still have any data on PC – Any folders – What was the [Icon] or [Program Name] that you click on to run – Do you still have CD – Did you install it on another PC? -

I will look on VIA web site for the [USB Problem] to see its relationship – Have you tried to Install it from [Device Manager] – Properties Page? – You may have a [Class] driver on your PC???-

I will do a search for it when I obtain [Phone Data] – Maybe I’ll see you in a – Bangkok Cafe –

I don't think you should bother urself with the USB data cable..... I'll try searching for the CD again...

Meanwhile, just look into the VIA website.

I'm not sure abt. Bangkok, I dont have any plans to go there now.

I'm planning to do my masters from the US.... hopefully, but that's still a long way off.

Looked over the VIA Web site – USB Problems – Well just about all seem to relate – which ones were you referring to – There were/are some good Articles & USB info that applies – Did clear up some of my observations -

I will check out the other USB web sites {ALI] – [SiS] & [NEC] – To compare Notes / Problems /Ideas

Yes I am located in US – I have no plans on Traveling to India – My Traveling Days are all in the PAST -

Been seeing a lot of these USB failures where all ports fail. Would like to know what causes it and if their is any solution other than new Motherboard... and don't go wasting your time reloading your OS before trying a boot CD like BartPE or Ultimate Windows Boot CD. Also a good indication is if you have a USB laser mouse or a memory stick with a light, if it don't light up on boot your most likely going to need a Motherboard. Only seen this issue on HP's and Acers and seen it a lot.
