My PC (peice of crap) will not connect to the internet, tho it was doing it earlier today!
We have a PC and a MAc sharing the same DSL modem/router, and the MAC is online (using it for this)

The only way i could find out what was wrong with the computer was to try and check my email and it came up with
"Error getting a network socket"

I installed some bit torent download software today.

Im using win 98Se with a P2 333 and 128Mb RAM

Uninstall the software and retry. If that does not work then download and run this utility and try again:

http://www.geekstogo...=download&id=21

If this works then try reinstalling the software and hopefully we can determine the exact problem from there. First we need to see if it is the software that is causing this. Also click start, run, type cmd click ok. Type ipconfig /all and copy and paste the information back here. Do this before uninstalling or using the utility.

I uninstalled the bit torent software but that didnt do anything

Ive reinstalled the software that came with the modem already and that didnt do anything.
Also i CANT get online with the PC to either download the utility or past it on this site.

I spent ages on the phone to tech suppor tthe other night and didnt get it solved, it ended up stuffing the conection to the net with the MAC which we fixed, but now when the USB cord for the PC is plugged in the mac wont go online.

I installed some JAVA thing as part of the BT software...possibly taking that away might help?
