My computer has a virus named Trojancachecachekit on it and I am having trouble getting it off. I tried the suggestions given by Symantec to remove it but when I have my computer in safe mode as it suggests my Norton antivirus will not open with an error message which appears and says:

Symantec Integrator has encountered a problem and needs to close.

After trying the suggestions from your website my Norton 2005 was able to remove the W32Spybot.NLX or at least I had a message that it did but I'm not sure I trust that it has been removed. I know this must be removed before the trojancachecachekit can be removed.

Ad-Aware was clean, I ran the Cleanup, Ewido and CWShredder. I believe all of my components are up-to-date. Trend came up clean although I know it isn't. My hijacker log is below.
I was unable to install the newer version of Spybot with the following error message:

An error occurred when trying to replace the existing file. Delete File Failed; Code 5 Access is denied

I followed the Symantec instructions and did find the HKEY-LOCAL_MACHINE, HKEY_CURRENT_USERS, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, HKEY_USERS, HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG in the registry which is no surprize but I need help getting rid of them.

I can follow whatever directions you give me but I've never done this before so please be specific with your instructions and thanks for your help.

Welcome to Geeks to Go!

Would you please set your system to SHOW HIDDEN FILES

Then, please locate this file:

C:\WINDOWS\D1rectX.exe

Right-click on it and go to "Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder". It will create a zip folder called D1rectX.zip in the WINDOWS directory. Please e-mail that zipped folder to [email protected]

Thank you :tazz:

We received the file, thank you, but the file you sent is what's called a XP Prefetch file and it's not the actual file itself.

You'll have to use Windows Explorer to locate it rather than search.

Right-click your Start button and go to "Explore", then go up to "View > Explorer Bar" and put a check next to Folders. This is where you will find the file (make sure hidden files are showing). Please navigate to this file:

C:\WINDOWS\D1rectX.exe

Please zip it up and e-mail it to the same address.

I appreciate it!

We have a new tool for this infection so we will get you fixed up!

That's fine we won't worry about it, thank you :tazz:

Let's get rid of the bugger!

Please follow all instructions as specified. Print these instructions to ensure all are followed.

Please download the following programs, but do not run them yet:

* rdrivRem.zip
  • Unzip it to your desktop.
* You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed
  • After the updates are installed exit Ewido.
* CleanUp!
  • Install it.
Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight "Safe Mode" then hit enter.

1.) Please go into the rdrivrem folder double-click rdrivRem.bat to run the program - follow the instructions on the screen. After it's complete, rdriv.txt will be created in the rdrivRem folder.

2.) Double-click the Ewido Security Suite icon to run the program.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose "remove", then put a check next to "Perform action on all infections" in the left corner of the box so you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time. Click OK.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
  • Exit Ewido
3.) Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
**If it asks if you want to reboot or log off press NO.

4.) After Cleanup! is finished, run HijackThis. Place a check next to the following items, if found, and click FIX CHECKED:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp.../search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://as.starware.c...CJcXC2bjYJmhbs=
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} (cpbrkpie Control) - http://a19.g.akamai....02/cpbrkpie.cab

Close HiJackThis.

Reboot your computer into normal mode

5.) Make sure your firewall is on. Make sure you can turn it off then turn it back on and that nothing is greyed out.
Also, Make sure your Anti-Virus program is working properly - you can turn on and off auto-protect, etc.

6.) Run BOTH of these online virus scans (NOT at the same time!):
ActiveScan
TrendMicro's HouseCall - check "Auto Clean"

Save the results from ActiveScan.

I need you to post the contents of rdriv.txt, the log from Ewido, the log from ActiveScan, and a new HiJackThis log into this topic.

Good Morning!

:tazz: I followed your instructions and below are the logs you requested.

I checked the quarantine list in my antivirus and found that it had deleted D1rect.exe which is why I couldn't find the file.

Ewido gave me some trouble downloading the updates. I uninstalled and reinstalled it this morning because I was going to rerun it to make sure it worked correctly and now it tells me it can't find the database and will not allow me to connect for updates. I believe it was ok when I ran the log I am sending you from last night but I can't be 100%sure.

This is my Highjacker Log:

It's slow to boot up but other than that it seems ok. I ran my antivirus and the infection was gone as well. Thanks for your patience and help!

It's booting slow because you have a lot of unecessary progams loading on startup.

First, please right-click on the desktop and go to "New Folder". Name it HJT. Then right-click the HiJackThis program on the desktop and go to cut. Go into the folder you just made and paste. This is so backups are made and accessible.

The items below are OPTIONAL items that are not needed on startup, fixing these will free system resources and allow your system to boot and run more quickly. This does not remove them from the system, only from startup. Most can be started by going to Start > All Programs.

Run HiJackThis. Place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdateManager] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic\Update Manager\sgtray.exe" /r
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\bin\jusched.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottim
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mmtask] c:\Program Files\MusicMatch\MusicMatch Jukebox\mmtask.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HistoryKill] C:\Program Files\HistoryKill\histkill.exe /startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BearShare] "C:\Program Files\BearShare\BearShare.exe" /pause
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MoneyAgent] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\mnyexpr.exe"
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Close HijackThis.

Reboot your system and let me know if it's booting faster now :tazz:

Then please do this for me:

Please download WebRoot SpySweeper from HERE (It's a 2 week trial):
  • Click the Free Trial link on the right - next to "SpySweeper for Home Computers" to download the program.
  • Double-click the file to install it as follows:
    • Click "Next", read the agreement, Click "Next"
    • Choose "Custom" click "Next".
    • Leave the default installation directory as it is, then click "Next".
    • UNcheck "Run SpySweeper at Windows Startup" and "Add Sweep for Spyware to Windows Explorer Context Menu". Click "Next".
    • On the following screen you can leave the e-mail address field blank, if you wish. Click "Next".
    • Finally, click "Install"
  • Once the program is installed, it will open.
  • It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
  • Once the definitions are installed, click Sweep Now on the left side.
  • Click the Start button.
  • When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
  • Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
  • It will remove all of the items found.
  • Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
  • Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
  • Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply.

Here is the log you requested. My desktop is what is slow to boot up. When I made the HJT folder it created a backup folder as well. Do I want that to remain?

I'm not sure what you mean by your desktop being slow to boot.

When I made the HJT folder it created a backup folder as well. Do I want that to remain?

That's why we created the HJT folder, for the back ups. You can keep this folder in the event you want to put any of the optional items back into startup. You can move the whole folder wherever you want. If you plan to uninstall HiJackThis, then if it remains you can delete it :tazz:

Post one more HiJackThis log and please let me know what you mean by your desktop booting slowly.

Excellent :tazz:

Just need to see one more HiJackThis log and you should be good to go :)

Of course, I do have recommendations to help prevent this from happening again, the most important is to get rid of Bearshare!
