my laptop doesn't have a number pad.
can I still type alt keys?
I dont get it.

I'm not sure I understand the second part of your question---could you elaborate?

For the other part, most laptops dohave number pads that are built into the letter keys, but it requires you hit a key combination to activate it (typically FUNCTION+???)

Check you manual.

sometimes it's under system tools and is called "character map"

character map is nice but I have to type a lot of stuff in french. character map is really slow. I pretty much have all the french characters memorized so it went really fast when I had the number pad.

pressing the function key and alt and your number pad keys (labled on the keys of the lapto...mine are in blue) will put the ascii characters into a document ╠%Ö♠4╝└I╔Æ
