Hello everybody

I am a newbie here. First and foremost I want to thank every member of geeks to go for helping everybody out.

I am having serious problems with my computer. I am using IE. Of late I have been getting a windows pop up “Webpage you requested in not available offline. Please click on connect”. I tried resolving the issue (I checked if “work offline” has been checked etc.) but in vain. Then I realized that IE does not let me change my homepage also. I have also been getting the winfixer pop up every now and then. When I ran McAfee I got a message stating that there is a PUP (potentially unwanted program)
Path : C:\Windows\$NtUninstall\KB873333$\cras.dll.
But McAfee was not able to clean or delete the file. It says it’s an adware-virtumundo. Ad everytime I boot my computer it McAfee says that “a suspicious file has been found”. I tried out all the instructions posted in the “go to: section of the forum (Ran Ad aware professional, spybot and CW shredder). So now I am posting the HijackthisLogfile

Please disable SpybotSD’s protection, as it may hinder the removal of the infection. You can enable it after you're clean.

Open Spybot and click on Mode and check Advanced Mode
Check yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
Click on Resident icon.
Uncheck Teatimer box and/or Uncheck Resident.
Close Spybot.

Please disable AdWatch, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.
To disable AdWatch:

Open AdAware SE.
Go to AdWatch User Interface.
Go to Tools and Preferences.
At the bottom of the screen you will see 2 options Active and Automatic.
Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically
Uncheck both options. You can enable these after resolving your problem.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.

Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
Next you will see:

This will be the vundo filename spelt backwards. for example if the vundo dll was vundo.dll you would have the user enter odnuv.*
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
In HijackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\$N4EBE~1\cras.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: cras - C:\WINDOWS\$N4EBE~1\cras.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: expjava - C:\WINDOWS\Cursors\expjava.dll (file missing)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: webdisk - C:\WINDOWS\Web\printers\webdisk.dll (file missing)
After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Download and install Cleanup from here (Alternate site if the above is not working, go Here)

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HijackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Thanks a lot for ur quick response.

I did everything like u asked me to. But i faced a few problems. I ran Vundofix.exe. When i entered the second path C:\Windows\$NtUninstall\KB873333$\sarc.* it says that "please be sure u typed the correct file path, the file ptah you entered does not seem to exist"

When i press enter the program exits. I manually opened Hijackthis and ran it. Then i rebooted the computer. Then i downloaded cleaup and ran the program. Then i ran Activescan. I am still having the same problems. I am getting the same pop up " No connection to the internet is currently available. Clicl workoffline". then it says "Webpage u requested is not avaialble offline. To view this page click connect".

I am posting the results of the Activescan and new Hijackthis log(the entry C:\WINDOWS\$N4EBE~1\cras.dll still seems to exist) . PLease let me know what i have to do next. Thanks a lot for your help.
PS: do i have to make all files visible before i follow the procedure.

Panda is telling us what we did wrong :tazz:

We put in a slash when there is non.

Please disable Spybot and AdWatch again.

Then rerun the advise but use this path in the first line of the vundofix:
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB873333$\cras.dll

and this path in the second line of vundofix:
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB873333$\sarc.*

Then move on to cleanup and rerun Panda.

Please post me a fresh HijackThis log, the vundofix file and the Panda report.

Hi,
Thanks again for your quick response.

I did everything u asked me to. It went well. Expect for the last part. After running HIjack this, the system did not reboot itself after pressing the
enter key. I had to manually restart it. I ran cleanup and panda. I was not getting the pop up "the webpage u r trying to view...."
But i am still not able to change the homepage. Am pasting the panda report, the Hijackthis log and Vundofix file.
Please let me know as to what i have to do next.

Were you able to run the entire vundofix? No error messages?
Looking at the result I'm sure the vundofix part went wrong, just trying to find out why.
Would it help if I post you a full advise?

HI

It would be great if you could post the full advice. I ran the full vundofix. I am not sure if it corrected all the problems. I guess I could do it all over again.

No problem, we really need to have the vundotool run correctly or we will not get right of this.

Please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.
At this point press enter one time.
Next you will see:
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
- C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB873333$\cras.dll
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB873333$\sarc.*
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
In HijackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\$N4EBE~1\cras.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: cras - C:\WINDOWS\$N4EBE~1\cras.dll
After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HijackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Hi,

I did things exactly the way you asked me to. But i faced the same problem. When i ran Vundofix, it accepted both the file paths. But this is what happened

" Killing processes'
'Process is not recognized as a internal or external command, operable program
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB873333$\cras.dll

the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process
deleting infected dll's"

Then Hijackthis opened. I checked the 2 items u asked me to and said fix checked. But after i closed hijack this and pressed the enter key the system did not reboot by itself. i had to manually do it. Before i did all this in the safe mode i made sure that i unloaded spybot and adaware just as u asked me to. please let me know what i should do next...

I just consulted the creator of this tool (Atribune, thank you).

We need to redownload the tool, looks like something took a bite out of it :tazz:

Remove the previous version, so the downloaded vundofix.exe and the folder it created.

Please redownload VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.

Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HijackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could guide me as to how to protect my computer (softwares that i can download)from all these spywares and viruses. could be also guide me regarding the system restore point.

Am i supposed to delete hijacthis, vundofix and cleanup or could i have them??

You can keep cleanup! to help help you remove temp files every once in a while.
You can remove the other tools.

Please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

Re-enable system restore with the instructions from the tutorial above
Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
- From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
- Click once on the Security tab
- Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
- Click once on the Custom Level button.
  - Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
  - Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
  - Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
  - Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
  - Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
  - Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
  - When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
  - If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
- Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer always has the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & Hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with this program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

Install Ad-Aware – Download and install Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with this program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
