Has anyone experienced this problem? I've recently installed a fresh installation of WinXP Pro on a laptop. The problem I encountered after the installation was that I have to manually starts DHCP Client Service everytime. I know by default it should starts automatically, but for some reason I have to start it manually everytime. Can someone help please?

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi! lakerfan07, and welcome to G2G.
Follow the steps below:
Start -> Run.
Type: services.msc
Press <enter>

Look for DHCP Client client service and double-click it to open its Properties dialog.
Set its StartupType to Automatic.

Perhaps a script rewriting the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services key?

Permissions improperly set on this key?

Right click the key in the key in the registry, choose permissions...anything?

Some of the dependencies in the list were drivers not services; we need to check them in Device Manager; follow the steps below:
Start -> Run.
Type: devmgmt.msc
Press <enter>

In the Device Manger, in the View menu, click Show hidden devices.
Now, double-click Non-Plug and Play drivers section.
Double-click all driver entries you found in dependency list of DHCP one-by-one to open its properties dialog, and click the Driver tab;
Check if the Startup type is System.

darth_ash,

Are you saying the drivers should have startup type is system? If not, then change it to system right?

Yes.
Why did find any, which dont meet the criteria?
Make sure change the drivers upon which DHCP depends only.

If you do, dont for get to Reboot your PC after the changes

darth_ash,

It still doesn't work. Once I reboot it goes back to normal and I have to manually start the service again.

Maybe one of the dependencies is not installed and hence missing from the list.
And you list all the dependecies you have for the DHCP client service, by going back into services.msc.

darth_ash,

Yes, I listed all.

This is the first time I ran into this and I've tried everything. I think it's best to reinstall XP again and see what happens. What you think?
