Streaming Media Problem

Whenever i try to open any streaming media with windows media player it just says connecting and then goes to ready and nothing happens. This has only begun since i had to update my aol software. It said that i had to upgrade the network so i did and it installed something called pppoe (i think they are drivers) then it said that local area connection 2 had limited or no connectivity. I then fixed that by updating the modem's drivers. Now i cant get any streaming media and i dont know why. I have tried updating windows media player but that did not help. If you know what could be causing that any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
