Hi, I had some spyware issues but using advice from your site, I think I've removed most of it. I've used Ewido in safe mode, Adaware latest version etc. I couldn't change my background so I ran smitRem and it seemed to fix my problem.

My system is now running fine, but I notice what look like dodgy O17 entries in my HJT log. I've reverse IP checked these to a dodgy company in Kiev, Ukraine!! I live in the UK and my ISP is British Telecom, so this does not look right. I have tried using HJT to fix the entries but the re-appear in the scan after a reboot.

Any advice please :tazz:

Download CCleaner and install this program.

Download remv3.zip and unzip it to its own folder (otherwise it willnot work)

Restart your computer in Safe Mode. How do I Safe Boot my computer?

Scan again with HijackThis and check the following items:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{0E98E22D-2AB7-408E-A7C3-61DD42014FD4}: NameServer = 85.255.113.123 85.255.112.14
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{0E98E22D-2AB7-408E-A7C3-61DD42014FD4}: NameServer = 85.255.113.123 85.255.112.14

After checking these items, close all browser windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked".

Start CCleaner and click the button "Run Cleaner".
Open the folder you've extracted remv3.zip to and doubleclick remv3.bat.

Then reboot your computer back into normal mode.

Please go to "Start" --> Control Panel. In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically

Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable one some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Then, restart your computer and post a fresh log from HijackThis.

Many thanks for your help - all instructions followed, except the O17's did not appear in HJT scan in Safe Mode. Therefore, I removed these in normal mode prior to the last reboot.

In my new log, new O17's have appeared, but doing a reverse IP lookup these are both related to BT, who is my ISP :) .

Let me know if you spot anything else with this log and thanks :tazz:

P.S. I'd be interested to know what the remv3 process does, just for future reference.

View Post

It deletes the files that are related to this infection :tazz:

This log looks clean!
  • Don't forget to re-hide all files and folders. To re-hide all files and folders:
    • Open My Computer.
    • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    • Select the View Tab.
    • Under the Hidden files and folders heading deselect "Show hidden files and folders".
    • Check the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    • Click Yes to confirm.
    • Click OK.
  • This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. Read the article behind this link "How did I get infected". If you don't already have them, you need an antivirus that is updated, a good firewall for example Kerio Personal Firewall or ZoneLabs Zone Alarm, a spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads and spyware detection (Ad-aware SE and SpyBot S+D). All of these have good free versions available... be very cautious about any security software that advertises in popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually useless, but also often have malware in them....

Instead of Internet Explorer, use a different browser like Opera, Mozilla or Firefox.

Last, but not least, you need to keep Windows and Internet Explorer up to date by getting all the latest security patches that protects your computer.

This can be accessed by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and following the prompts.

Please post back if you are still having any problems....
