Hi anyone who can help me

so i have this problem with an new AOL viruses. Umm im not sure what too do about them i thiink one is lock.exe and msdirectx.sys and more but im not sure,ive been running avg, spybot s&d, ad-aware se personal, but still they are there i did that HJT thing so hopefully that helps if u got any idea on how to get rid of these viruses. That would be pretty badass.

Lets start out with some general scans and see if we cant clean things up a little.

+++++ Step 1 +++++

Please download Ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.

• Install Ewido security suite
• Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
• The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
• The program will now go to the main screen

You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.

• On the left hand side of the main screen click update
• Click on Start

The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:

• Click on scanner
• Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
  • Binder
  • Crypter
  • Archives
• Click on Start Scan
• Let the program scan the machine

While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report

• Click Save report
• Save the report to your desktop

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

After that, I will need to see two different logs from HiJackThis. The first is the normal log like you posted here. To get the other one, follow these directions.

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Post back with those logs and we can continue from there.

Hi There

Could you please provide me with one more piece of information. I need a Startup list in Safe mode.

To do this,

Create a Startup List in Safe Mode

• Boot into Safe Mode
• Open HiJackThis
• Click on the "Config..." button on the bottom right
• Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
• Check off the 2 boxes next to the Box that says "Generate StartupList log"
• Click on the button "Generate StartupList log"
• Copy and past the StartupList from the notepad into your next post

Hi There

Ahhhh, that explains why we couldnt see the problems in the scans we have done.

You will need to make sure that EVERYTHING is enabled in msconfig, including the nasties, for the scans to give me all the info we need to clean this out. We wont get anywhere otherwise, sorry.

so...

1) Please re enable all items in MSConfig.

2) Reboot into SAFE MODE

3) Open HJT and scan, save and post me the log.

4) Still in SAFE MODE, get another "Start UP Items List" from HJT in the same way as you did earlier.

5) Reboot into normal mode and post the two logs here for me.

In your first post, you mentioned msdirectx.sys. Was this being detected by your Antivirus applications or what?

yeah but now i cant remember its been soo long i think one of the antiviruses did pick it up

OK, here we go

You may want to print these instructions for reference as you work throughthe fix


1) Ensure that nothing is disabled from starting in Msconfig.

2) Please download the aimfix.exe application from this site, but do not run it yet.

3) Please download LQfix.exe and save it to your desktop.

• Double-Click LQfix.exe and click Next > Next > Install.
• Leave the default settings, if you change them, the fix will Fail!
• Now make sure the "Launch LQfix" box is checked.
• Click the Finish button, after clicking the Finish button the fix will start.
• Follow the on-screen prompts.
• Your system will now reboot afterwards.
• Please be patient after the reboot, there is a script running in the background that needs to complete.

4) Run the aimfix.exe application you downloaded earlier

5) Reboot and do a scan with HiJackThis and post a new log by using Add Reply
