Ok, I've been running Ad-aware and Spybot S& D for about a week trying to eradicate this stuff and it keeps coming back. Soooooo. . . yesterday I ran Cleanup!, then tonight I ran Ad-aware, Spybot S&D, Ewido, downloaded the Windows XP SP1 update, rebooted, and ran HJT.

So far nothing else has happened since I rebooted, but I've had a quiet period in previous bouts, followed by pop-ups with no apparent trigger.

Here's the HJT log, and I see a BHO problem that's been identified before but isn't gone yet--is there anything else suspicious in here?

Thanks much for your help!

Marla

As additional information, I am still getting pop-ups today (primarily Inqwire, Sinaloa, and Web Nexus), and when I ran Ewido again this morning it removed the following 7 items:

+ Created on: 11:50:50 AM, 9/24/2005
+ Report-Checksum: CFFB1C45

+ Scan result:

[1988] C:\WINDOWS\System32\gkkrk.dll -> TrojanDownloader.Qoologic.ac : Cleaned with backup
C:\Documents and Settings\Marla Patterson\Cookies\marla [email protected][2].txt -> Spyware.Cookie.Yieldmanager : Cleaned with backup
C:\Documents and Settings\Marla Patterson\Cookies\marla [email protected][2].txt -> Spyware.Cookie.Liveperson : Cleaned with backup
C:\Program Files\backups\backup-20050924-002137-334.dll -> Trojan.Kolweb.d : Cleaned with backup
C:\Program Files\backups\backup-20050924-094821-676.dll -> Trojan.Kolweb.d : Cleaned with backup
C:\WINDOWS\system32\1dgye.dll -> Trojan.Kolweb.d : Cleaned with backup
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qyyby.dat -> Trojan.Pakes : Cleaned with backup

::Report End

The Kolweb trojan seems to be returning after every cleaning. Whenever I reboot and do another HJ log, the BHO that BHO Demon identifies as Kolweb.B has returned to the list. I've fixed this item with HJT three times so far, only to have it return on reboot:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7A1693A1-AFAF-4F1E-9B05-EEC38A85FBF3} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\1dgye.dll

Is Kolweb the problem? And if so, where the heck is it hiding?

Hi Marlamp and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

Please Download the following tools to assist us in removing this infection!
  • Download WinPFind
    • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
    • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
    • Dont do anything with it yet!
  • Download Track qoo
    • Save it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
Reboot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Place those results in the next post!
Reboot back to Normal Mode!

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind!

Download Pocket KillBox from here. There is a Direct Download and a description of what the Program does inside this link.

Download LQfix Here
save it to your desktop, please do not use yet

Please open Notepad, and copy/paste the code in the box below into a new text file. Save it as KillQoo.reg (set Filetype to "All Files") and save it on your Desktop.

Excal, I downloaded both programs and started the Killbox process. It all worked as described until I put the following file into Killbox:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\gkkrk.dll

This file caused the program to stop responding. I finally shut down the program and tried to restart, but the Killbox file would not reboot. I went back to the original Killbox zip file and extracted a new copy of Killbox in another location. It opened correctly, and I again attempted to process the gkkrk.dll file, but the same thing happened--program locked up and would not restart. Now even if I delete my copies of Killbox and download a totally new file, it will not boot.

How do I proceed?

I haven't rebooted yet after putting the first nine files through Killbox (I understood your instructions to mean load all of them in, then reboot). Should I reboot now without getting the other files into Killbox?

take this one out. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\gkkrk.dll

when u get into safe mode, do the following in addition to the rest of the instructions.

If you use Windows XP, Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Go to start>run and type in CMD, then hit ok

Type the following:

cd C:\

then enter>

cd windows

then enter>

cd system32

then enter>

attrib -r -s -h gkkrk.dll

then enter>

del gkkrk.dll

then enter>

Ok, Excal, the final HJT log is attached. Even after the manual deletion of the gkkrk.dll it gave me problems on the Killbox cleanup pass--I never got a good file deleted response because it locked up the program every time. However, everything else is gone.

Can you give me a fresh WinPFind log and a trackqoo log please.

also one of these:

Silent Runners:
  • Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

  • NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
    For some time it will look like nothing is happening. Just keep waiting.
  • Once it's done it will create a log. A window will come up telling you when it's saved. Please post that log here

Thanks,

:tazz:

If you use Windows XP, Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Jotti File Submission:
  • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan"box on the top of the page:
    • c:\windows\system32\fxiccfgb.exe
  • Click on the submit button
  • Please post the results in your next reply.
Please do the same for these also:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\0uhz.sys
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\gkkrk.dll

go into safe mode.

  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Delete File on Reboot"
  • Navigate to this file - c:\windows\system32\fxiccfgb.exe
  • Double click on that file.
  • HJT asks you if you want to reboot, now. Click "no".

    Do that for the following files also, until you get to the last one, then click "yes" when HJT asks you to reboot.
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\0uhz.sys
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\gkkrk.dll

Reboot

Going to need a fresh WinPfind log.

Thanks,

:tazz:
