This comes up in a dialog box when I start up - IE search bar has been changed to g.msn.com/OSEENUS/SAOS03.

I ran ad-aware, spy-bot S&D, cleenup, have AVG and Spy Gaurd running.

Hi-Jack this log attached, can someone please take a look at it and let me know if I have something messing me up?

Thanks

Hello Dave and Welcome to GeeksToGo :)

Sorry for the delay on getting to your post.

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE to download Silent Runner's.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will receive a prompt:
    • Do you want to skip supplementary searches?
      click NO
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Please Post a NEW HijackThis log and SilentRunners log.

Then we can get this started :tazz:

Welcome Back Dave :tazz: Good job on keeping your computer clean :) Just a few things to fix.

First please move the Hijackthis.exe from its current location and put it in a folder you make here --> C\Program Files\HijackThis Use HJT from this location from now on. Hijackthis makes backups So it is good to have this program in a permanent location.

Please disable SpywareGuard. You can turn it back on after we are done.

To disable SpywareGuard:
Right click the running icon of Spywareguard, it will open the program.
Then go to Menu, file, exit.
Then confirm the program is closed.

Now before we can fix some of these things in HijackThis We need to stop A few Processes. Here is how you do it :Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete at the same time and then click on the Processes Tab if not already selected.
Now click on each of the following processes and click the "End Process" button for each one. Click Yes for each warning message.
MOSEARCH.EXE

Please open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://g.msn.com/0SEENUS/SAOS03
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [MOSearch] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\SYSTEM\MOSEARCH\BIN\MOSEARCH.EXE

Now close all windows and browsers other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Next just to be sure there isnt something hiding :)

Lets do a PandaSoftware Online Virus Scan.

You will need to be using Microsoft Internet Explorer to do this scan.
You will have to Allow the installation of Active X controls.
You will have to enter a valid e-mail address.
Then click "My Computer" when it asks what you want to scan.
When it finishes scanning a little box will pop up Click OK
Save the results and post in your next reply

Please run this online virus scan here: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the Panda ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log

Hello Dave and Welcome Back :)

Please use windows explorer to delete this file:
C:\WINDOWS\.jpi_cache\jar\1.0\archive.jar-69f9bf13-11de222f.zip

Please be sure you have a Normal Startup enabled. ( if you can do this with your version of windows )Here is how you do it:Click the Start button
Click the Run button
Type the following in box provided-----> msconfig
Click OK
Click the "Normal Startup- load all device drivers and services"
Click Apply & Restart computer
Did you check and fix more than was in my first post ?? It seems the 2 entries for AVG are gone from your 04's and Sygate Firewall seems to be missing also.

Did you uninstall Sygate ??

Also have you been playing a new game on your computer from "bigfishgames.com" ? If so its cool i was just curious due to a new entrie in your log.

Also i see you have installed FireFox <------ Good Choice :tazz: How ever you will still need Internet Explorer every now and then :)

Im pretty sure if you are still having trouble with AVG after a reboot you will have to UNinstall and then ReINstall.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask :)

Please let me know how everything is running after all that.

Also please post a NEW HijackThis log :)

And we can do the final steps to finish this up :)

Hi,

I am out of town on a job right now, so I am not at my computer, but I wanted to reply to some of the things invyour last post.

As far as I know, I didn't delete anything other than what you specified. I am not sure why AVG or Sygate are gone, I was wondering if the Panda activescan could have disabled something???

My wife was doing something with bigfishgames, I was wondering if that could have been any of the problems??

And lastly, What is FireFox?? This may seem like a dumb question since it appears as though I installed it, but I did not even know I had it......

I also noticed that my clock is slow at times......

Sorry for more questions without any results, but I will be back home tomorrow evening and back at it.

Thanks,
Dave

Hey Dave :)

We will probably need to reinstall AVG. As far as Sygate not running that is wierd.. We will figure that out when you get back :)

Panda scan didnt touch anything in Sygate's or AVG's folders so it couldnt be that.

Bigfishgames is ok I was just wondering if it had added itself.

This is what made me think you had installed "Mozzilla FireFox" : C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\
FireFox is an alternative to Internet Explorer and is much safer for web surfing :)

As far as the clock
Hmm you may have a battery getting low ( how old is your computer ? )

We can figure all this out tommorow :)

See Ya :tazz: retrac

Ok

I deleted that file. I re-installed AVG, Sygate, and SpywareGaurd. All seem to be working fine now.

I forgot to mention last nite that I am getting a message on starup about some files that are in the registry that are no longer used. The files that it shows are vsdata95.vxd and c:\windows\system\drivers\vetmon95.vxd

I mentioned about the clock because I was having problems before and after I cleaned things up, the clock worked correctly. I was wondering if there was something slowing my system down.

Everything seems to be running well now, but still a lottle slow, kinda like jerky sometimes. The cursor will move fine, freeze for a second or two, then move again....

Sygate just gave me the following message.

"Win32 Kernel core component (Kernel32.dll) has received a Broadcast packet from the remote machine (72.240.192.1). Do you want to allow this program to access the network?"

Is this a hacking attempt?

by the way - I said "NO"

I will be away on vacation until next Monday evening, so I won't be able to change or update aything until then. I will have Internet access to see any reply though.

Thanks,
Dave

Hey Dave Your Log is clean :) We will try and take care of the error messages now.
When you get back Monday I will try and have some ideas to speed up your PC :)

Those 2 errors you are recieving are from ZoneAlarm.
Did you use to have ZoneAlarm Anti Virus?? If so make sure it is uninstalled first, Go Start>All Programs> look for Zone Alarm and click on it (select uninstall from there) If it is not there proceed with directions below:

Uninstalling ZoneAlarm is know to have problems sometimes :) Do you still have the ZoneAlarm CD ??? Or did you get it from a download ??? If you have the ZA CD or the install file (Possibly in C\Program Files\ZoneLabs) then we suggest reInstalling Zone Alarm and Reboot. Then Go Start> run> type msconfig click OK. Click the startup Tab and look for any entries ZoneAlarm has added and UNcheck them. Now Reboot the system MAKE SURE ZoneAlarm is not running in anyway. Now go Start> All Programs> ZoneLabs click it and select UNinstall from the list.

That was Buckeye Cable Visison trying to connect to your computer from (72.240.192.1) Probably your Internet Provider.. It will prolly be just fine to keep blocking them if internet is still working fine.

:tazz: retrac

There are also a few last things to do to make sure you keep the badies away in the future, so check back Monday :)

Zone Alarm is not is my list of programs anymore. I did find something under the startup tab like you mentioned and I un-checked it. I am still getting the error messages though :tazz:

The message says that either the registry or system.ini is looking for them?

Not sure if you needed another Hijack This log, so here it is anyway :)

BTW - what is ptsnoop?

Hey Dave :tazz: Well hmmmmm Try and go to ZoneAlarms web site and Install the trial version of the same Software that you use to run and then :
Reboot your computer
Then Go Start> run> type msconfig click OK. Click the startup Tab and look for any entries ZoneAlarm has added and UNcheck them.
Now Reboot the system MAKE SURE ZoneAlarm is not running in anyway. Now go Start> All Programs> ZoneLabs click it and select UNinstall from the list.

Yea that was the correct one you unchecked in msconfig :) ( zlclient ) Funny that one just popped in your log post before last. Wierd....

As far as Ptsnoop - This background program is used by PCTEL modems. It is essential to the good functioning of those modems. If you have high speed internet and dont use your modem you can uncheck this in "msconfig" You May Need your modem again some day :woot: So dont fix with HJT

Let me know how it goes :woot:

All signs of Zone Alarm are gone and I am not getting that error about the files on startup :tazz:

At times the puter is still slow, cursor kinda stops for a few seconds then goes again.

I also have another problem but it might be for another forum. When I startup, I get a message about running ScanDisk even when it was shut down properly. I then get a message that says "Scan Disk encountered a data error while reading the FAT on Drive C:" Then "This error prevented Scan Disk from fixing this drive"

Any thoughts on this or referral to someone else?
