I've already done clean up, adaware, spybot, cwshredder, trend housecall (didn't do trojanhunter since its a trial version), and windows update (no critical updates were needed). I have AVG free edition, and Mcafee-- personal firewall only (no other components of Mcafee security suite).

My computer is running a little better after all that. I still want to get rid of processes or anything else not is not necessary. There are things running in the tray (automatic on startup) that I want to get rid of like HP, quicktime, messenger, active synch (if I can), and java update.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time.

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

• The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
• Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  
• Now click on Scan Settings
• In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
  
  • Scan Options:
  Scan Archives
  Scan Mail Bases
• Click OK
• Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
• This will program will start and scan your system.
• The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
• Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
• Save the file to your desktop.
• Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Now run a fresh scan with HJT and save a new log.

I saw that there's a virus, but I haven't done anything to mirc yet. I run mirc all the time.

I don't even have Limewire (I thought I didn't). Someone installed on my computer a while back but I uninstalled it soon after. Limewire does not show up in my "Add/Remove Programs" list.

We have a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set.


Let's clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

I definetly recommend SpywareBlaster and SpyBot S&D(they dont use any RAM) Update them every couple weeks. Also keep SpyBot S&D Immunized.
Also update your Hosts file occasionally. There is a link in my signature.


Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:

• SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
• SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.

If you ever want to completly uninstall McAfee. Here are 2 free firewalls available for personal use:

• Sygate Personal Firewall
• ZoneAlarm

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit monthly.

• Microsoft Windows Update

I did those things, a couple more questions:

There is still an HP icon and Logitech icon that load in the system tray on startup. Is there a way to get rid of that, besides using msconfig.

About mirc, does that program leave me vulnerable to any kind of attacks or malware? I've allowed it to act as a server under my mcafee firewall settings.

Also, just out of curiousity, and wanting to get rid of absolutely anything I don't need or use, what are the following items and would it hurt anything to delete them with HJT:

Ok Ive noticed you have NVidia and ATI video features.Do you use 2 video cards?? If you dont use one or the other go to Add/Remove programs and remove any ATI or NVidia software (whichever you are not using).

Well as far as using a registry cleaner .... No one here uses them and we dont recommend using them as they seem to cause more problems than help.

Regscrub wouldnt really help speed up your pc.

Performance Tips <----- Go to that link. I would only recomend Tips #2, #7, #19, and #31

Hopefully some of those will help speed ya up some more.


Also if your not on a network that shares a printer you can do the following : Go to My Computer> Tools> Folder Options> View> UNcheck "automatically search for network folders and printers"




As for the SpyBot warnings those are where you told your security center in Control Panel to not monitor your Firewall or Anti Virus which is good as long as you monitor them yourself.

If you want windows to monitor those you can go Start> Control Panel> Security Center> Change the way Security Center Alerts Me and recheck them.

IF you want to leave them as is and want SpyBot not to notify you of these changes do the following: Run SpyBot and then click on :HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\AntiVirusDisableNotify!=dword:0
and then right click it and select "Exclude from future searches"

And then do the same for : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\FirewallDisableNotify!=dword:0

Hey Junior Welcome Back ! Well your Log is clean

So sometimes you cant get to certain web pages ??? Is this happening alot?

I notice you had 4 internet explorers open when you ran HJT . This might slow down web surfing ?


Try and download and install FireFox from my signature ( Firefox is a web browser just like Internet Explorer, but safer )
Let it import all your favorites from Internet Explorer So you will have them. Let it be your Default Browser. Try using Firefox for a while and see if this helps. Also in Firefox when you right click on a favorite you can Open it in a new Tab which will keep you from having multiple Internet explorers open.
While FireFox is a safer browser you will still need Microsofts Internet Explorer for your windows updates and maybe a few other sites that dont recognize Firefox ( which are very few )
