Please help me I am at a complete state of confusion as to how to get rid of this free6 page.

I spoke to a mate and he advised me to do a factory reset, so I did and it seemed to work for a few hours. I got back all of my programs and interenet explorer. I was then in the middle of surfing and back came the Free6 web page and a few others including oldgames and sygannasty.

I did not know what to do and I managed to find your site. I have read the instructions about downloading hijackthis and creating a logfile so I have done this for you below.

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Phil

Pieter,

Thanks for your help,

I followed your instructions and checked and Fixed the issues through Hijackthis. I also managed to download and run the CWShredder, however when I went in to reboot safe mode I was unable to find c:\x.cab and c:\ied_s7.cab, and only manged to delete C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys2.dll

I am unsure how to find the two above files, could you advise me where they might be.

I have re-run and posted my new log for you to check my slow progress.

Looks good to me. :tazz:

The cab files are often removed after they have done their hijacking.
So if they are not there, you don't have to hold your computer upside down. ;)

Any more problems?

Pieter,

Just wondered if the Firewall protection that I have is adequate?

I used to have the basic Free downloaded Zone alarm and run Norton Antivirus alongside this.

The Norton antivirus and Norton personal Firewall 2003 were preloaded on my PC and to access the programs for a free trial.

I tried the Norton Antivirus fro the free trial and decided to pay for the continuation of this program for a year. After all the troubles I have had I have purchased an extension of the Norton Personal Firewall for an annual period.

ill these two programs be enough to protect my PC in the future? and if so casn you let me know how I find out if there working properly. I used to have constant alerts with zone alarm, I now don't get any and I am worried that bugs may be seeping in.

Thanks so much for all your help today.

Phil

You're better protected than most Internet users. Norton and ZoneAlarm are both very good choices. :tazz:

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use) Click Here.

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox Posted Image.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. ;)
