PRODUCT_NAME not found in string table error

I recently got a ipod 15GB for christmas, but everytime i try to install the software for it, i get an error message saying "String PRODUCT_NAME was not found in string table" then after that another one comes up saying "ERROR 0x80040706 Object Reference Not Set, Set up Terminating" I have spent hours on the phone with both apple and microsoft and they cant seem to find a solution for me. Does anyone know how i can get this software to install without getting these error messages? I would really appreciate help, ive been working on this problem for almost 3 days now, and im not having any luck.
