backdoor.sdbot, Trojan.Elitebar? [RESOLVED]

I'm not sure if the backdoor.sdbot or Trojan.Elitebar is what I have, but it came up a few times while I was scanning.

I got sent a link on AIM, stupidly, I downloaded it, and then it IMed everyone on my buddy list with the same link that got sent to me.

I restarted, and my computer acted strangely. My AIM had diappeared, my desktop completely changed as if it was the first time I ever used my computer. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with this, but I occasionally got random pop-up ads in Internet Explorer, even though I never use it. Also, a blank page with something along the lines of "self.focus()" opened up a few times in Firefox with the URL "file:///c:/DOCUME~1/Owner/LOCALS~1/Temp/6arab3.html".

I googled the URL, and I was led to this site.
I followed the required steps before I was supposed to post my log. The only thing I did not to was the Windows Update. It said that if I possibly have malware, I should download the SP1a, but when I tried to, it said that my computer couldn't.
I skipped the Windows Update step, and I restarted my computer. Once again, my desktop changed completely. I was even asked if I wanted a Windows tour.

I googled around some more and I came across the Symantec page for the backdoor.sdbot. I read through it, and I tried fixing it myself, but I stopped after it told me to disable the Windows XP System Restore.
I'm afraid to fiddle around any more because I'm probably just making everything worse, and that's the last thing I want.

Obviously, I'm not that technologically savvy, so I don't really understand this whole thing. Help would be greatly appreciated. :tazz:

Okay, I said I wouldn't fiddle, but this thing is driving me insane and I just want it gone.
I checked the ewido program and I looked in the Quarantine section and it said there was malware, and then I deleted all of them.
I also scanned my computer with it again.

Once again, there are quarantined items. I'll wait before I delete them all though. All of them either have "Trojan" or "Spyware" in their titles though.

Now, I'm finally going to be patient and not do anything else until I get some help.

Please hurry though, I'm stressing over this.

And I just wanted to ask a question. I downloaded the AVG anti-virus software, but I already have Norton. It said that I shouldn't be running two of them since it may reduce the protection, but my Norton's been expired for a while now, so I wanted to know if it's still okay to have them both?

Please follow these steps:

Please make sure that you can View Hidden Files
- Click Start -> My Computer
- Select Tools -> Folder options
- Select the View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled.
- Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked.
- For more info on how to show hidden files click here.
Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
- Restart your computer
- After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
- Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
- Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
- If you have trouble getting into Safe mode go here for more info.
Once in Safe mode, delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist):

ALCMTR.EXE
lockx.exe

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new log.

I wasn't exactly sure how to find the ALXMTR.EXE and lockx.exe files/directories. I just used the Search tool and deleted whatever applied. I hope that was okay.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point left over from what we have just cleaned.

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above
Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
- From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
- Click once on the Security tab
- Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
- Click once on the Custom Level button.
  - Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
  - Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
  - Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
  - Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
  - Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
  - Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
  - When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
  - If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
- Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
