I kept getting the same pop up saying that WINDOWS\system32\regedit.com was corrupted or something. I downloaded many many spyware killing programs and free virus protection. The pop-ups finally stopped but for some reason I still can't open my windows task manager. I downloaded hijackthis and here is my log file. I appreciate any help.

Welcome to GTG.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Copy the below files and go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say no:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\p2pnetwork.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\CMD.COM
C:\WINDOWS\system32\netstat.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ping.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tasklist.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskkill.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskmgr.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tracert.com

Restart. Make sure to close all open windows. Check and fix the following in HijackThis:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\GameDrvr.exe" /startup "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0500.dll"

Uninstall WildTangent via your Add/Remove panel if listed.

Delete these if found:

C:\Program Files\winupdates\

Restart and post a new HijackThis log.

I did what you said but

did not show up under Hijackthis. On the bright side, Task manager is working now.

Restart and double check to make sure that winupdates entry is not there again. Also see if you can find and delete the folder for it.

If all is well, then:

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
