I have windows xp home on my machine. It has recently started to hang on startup. In particular the taskbar is unusable and shows the 'egg timer' when moused over. Also looking at task manager it shows the 'svchost process' at 90% of cpu. Even killing this stops the crunching but I cannot still use the task bar.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi pssherry2. Welcome to GTG. :tazz:

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log as a new topic in the Hijack This forum. It will get a better response there from the people most qualified to analyze logs.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide. Also see this post.

Thanks. I got the machine cleaned up today with spybot v1.3. This cleaned out a lot of registry entries etc. Funny that spybot 1.2 (which I used initially didn't pick up any problems). That's twice that spybot has fixed a problem like this even though the virus scan people get all the publicity (and presumably sales). Thanks again.
