Hi all, have a PC here was working fine for 4-5 months, customer brought it in this week to have norton internet security 2005 installed, which went fine, had to remove alot of adware and spyyware first because their old protection was out of date.

2 days later pc is back but with a strange problem, after the windows xp screen during loadup (with the bar that moves left to right) the pc just reboots, it then loads up the options:

Start normally
Last know good config
and safe mode variations

none of these work, the pc reboots time after time

PC is as follows:

XP Pro /w SP2
Abit KV7-V mobo
Sempron 2200
256mb Crucial RAM
Ati Radeon 9200
Maxtor 40gb HDD
350w PSU
LG CDRW/DVD Combo Drive

Any ideas? Your assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Use the recovery console. Once you get the console up, use the chkdsk command to repair/recover the drive so you do not lose any info.

I'd try this first at the prompt:
chkdsk /p

Once complete, restart machine and try and log on normally. If you still cannot get on, use the next command:
chkdsk /r

Usually this helps fix the problem so you can start normally. :tazz:

Oh yeah forgot to mention, yesterday after the chkdsk i tried to format and re-install XP, format went ok but during xp installation got BSOD saying UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME.

So first thing i did today was change the HDD and now it wont boot at all, with or withot a new HDD.
