About every 3-4 hours after using my computer, it will go into a Blue Screen, saying an error has occured. Then, it says processing memory dump (which never happens), forcing me to manually restart.

Here is my HiJack This Log:

When I ran AVG Anti-Virus, it comes up with something called appconf.exe, so it supposedly removed it. But after restarting, I noticed it was stil there, so i disabled it (temporarily) in my System Config., not wanting to permanently remove it from HiJack This! (in case it is something important). Please tell me what to do.

Thank you. :tazz:

Hi surge,

Please post a new log after reenabling all disabled items in msconfig. I need to see all items present there.

Also, can you tell me the exact error message you get on the blue screen and is it always the same message?

I am using Normal Startup, now, from Selective Startup.

I have not recieved that message, today, since I have been on this computer, so I cannot tell you exactly what the message said.

I know it was a BSOD XP style, that said Performing Memory Dump at the end, and I would have to manually restart.

Here is my HiJack This! Log:

We need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Options, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.

Open HijackThis and click Scan. Put a check next to these:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Micro Process] appconf.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Micro Process] appconf.exe

Close all other windows except HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

As for the BSOD, I'd check for errors and warnings listed in the Event Viewer. Look for entries for about the time you get the BSOD.

Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer

There will be three logs there, you can double click on an entry for more information..see if there is anything..

Also, check the in Device Manager for conflicts and/or errors..

You can find the device manager by right clicking on My Computer > Properties

It is under the Hardware tab..look for exclamation marks in a yellow circle..you can double click an entry and then click Troubleshoot..

Let's see how that goes..

I "fixed" those Hijack This! entries.

The event viewer for around the time I had an error reads like this:

First under application it says-
Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network. (The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. ). Group Policy processing aborted.

and then for one minute later...

Automatic certificate enrollment for local system failed to contact the active directory (0x8007054b). The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.
Enrollment will not be performed.

Here is my fresh HJT! log:

The HijackThis log is clean..

Yes the other errors are not important, the one you flagged looks to be the one indicating your problem..most commonly caused by bad memory or faulty motherboard

From the microsoft article on that error:

* Stop 0x7F messages are typically due to defective, malfunctioning, or failed memory hardware. If you added new hardware recently, remove and replace it to determine if it is causing or contributing to the problem. Run diagnostics software supplied by the system manufacturer to determine if the component has failed.
* Running the CPU beyond the rated specification, known as "overclocking," can cause Stop 0x7F or other error messages due to heat buildup. When diagnosing problems on overclocked systems, first restore all clock and bus speed settings to the manufacturer recommended values to determine if this resolves the issues.
* The problem might also be due to cracks, scratched traces, or defective components on the motherboard. If all else fails, take the system motherboard to a repair facility for diagnostic testing.
* Stop 0x7F messages can occur after installing incompatible applications, drivers, or system services. Contact the software manufacturer about possible Windows XP Professional-specific updates. Using updated software is especially important for backup programs, multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, and CD mastering tools.

Full article here:

http://www.microsoft...md_stp_ukdq.asp

Another similar article:

http://support.micro...=137539&sd=RMVP

See here another person getting the exact same errors had to replace the motherboard:

http://www.windowsbb...ead.php?t=38035

So your problem appears to be not malware related. I suggest that if you cannot resolve the issue following the above, make a post in the hardware forum. The staff members there would be able to guide you much better than me as this field is beyond my experience and knowledge.

Regards,

Armodeluxe
