Sorry to be a nuisance, but just thought I would add this information:

When I try to compose an email in Outlook Express, the font is huge and bold. I click Format and Font, and up pops an Internet Explorer box with a padlock on it (security?). It says: Allow sub-frames to navigate across different domains?

If I click 'yes', it brings the Font page up, and says it's my usual of Regular and 10 point, but when I try to carry on writing the font is still big and bold.

If I click that big, bold text which has appeared in the mail I am trying to write, to question the format it's in, the Allow sub frames box comes up again, so I can't get any further.

If I click 'no' to the Allow sub frames box, it says error 501 has occurred and 'permission denied', and I am back where I started. It's like Outlook Express is on some mad kind of loop!

Thank God for gmail is all I can say. :tazz:

Doh! Have half cured the Outlook Express font problem. Discovered that the textsize has been changed to 'Largest' when viewing an email that came in microscopic text - we couldn't enlarge it, by the way. That setting must have become the default. So I changed it back to 'Medium' and the font size was corrected.

BUT when I clicked on to Format and Font again the same Internet Explorer box 'Allow...' came up. Thinking it was no longer a problem I clicked the red cross in the top right hand corner and the computer crashed.

When it rebooted it said, recovered from serious error, error caused by device driver.

This is all over my head. :tazz:

I'll try not to present any more problems until you've had a chance to read it all!

Cheers

I need you to go into your C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. You will be looking for a file in there called wuauboot.exe. There probally will be two in there. The one your looking for will have been created on 29/09/2005 14:33 and be 401,408 bytes in size. It probally won't have an icon.
I need you to delete that file. If it won't delete in normal mode, do it in safe mode please.

Thanks,

:tazz:

I have looked and there isn't even one file of that name in System32. I used the search facility as well, and that said it doesn't exist.

Make sure your hidden files and folders are shown.

If you use Windows XP, Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

You won't find it using search because the "u" right after the w is not actually a "u". Its a symbol that look similiar. Thats why you need to manually go thru the entire folder.

Found it! Didn't have the System Files showing. Have deleted it, it's in the recycle bin. Now what?

PS There was only one file there. It did not have an icon, but was created on the 29th like you said, and was the right size.

Ok, lovely squelchy noise when w squiggle auboot.exe left the recyling bin.

My computer: takes about 1 minute to load on start up, which is about half a minute faster than before you helped me. Seems fine with IE and Avant Browser, pages load quickly. Plays music files and videos fine.

No sign of Winfixer or YieldManager.

Outlook Express marginally better but still taking a few seconds longer than normal to open, and then 8-10 seconds but to load folders when I move from one local folder to another. At one point it was taking ages to open folders with multiple files, then it got quicker at it.

I still cannot transfer files between local folders but managed to move one from Inbox, then the page froze. Also the circle sign for moving folders appeared after a few seconds, then hung in space, and froze. Also the Folders list completely disappeared. When OE is having difficulties the eggtimer symbol appears and then freezes. Then OE crashes. It says Not Responding but I don't report the error to Microsoft any more.

If I click the Format/Font button I am still getting the Allow... box.

Also, I have just had a pop up! The first in ages, apparently we have won a trip to Las Vegas! :tazz:

Sorry, don't know where the pop up was from, it was only on for a second and all I remember is Casino and Las Vegas! Bright blue. Is there any way I can bring it up deliberately? Went on my Status bar for blocked urls but the list is empty. Oh, found it in history - media.fastclick.net CONGRATULATIONS - and it was a Bahamas cruise and nowhere did it mention Las Vegas, must have been my secret wishes superimposed! :tazz:
