  • Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

  • Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NI.UWFX5RS_0001_0808] "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\IYDF0HXJ\WFXScanR[1].exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NI.UWFX5] "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\B3ABRG8F\WinFixer2005ScannerInstall[1].exe"

  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.

  • Reboot Your System

  • Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now. In addition, please tell me if there are any more malware problems that you are aware of.

Trevuren,

ONCE AGAIN, i tried to fix these 2 files with Hijack This:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NI.UWFX5RS_0001_0808] "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\IYDF0HXJ\WFXScanR[1].exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NI.UWFX5] "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\B3ABRG8F\WinFixer2005ScannerInstall[1].exe"

Once again i received this same message:

Unexpected error #52 ( Bad file name or number) in Sub GetLong Path)exe".exe).

This is harder to remove than I thought it would be.

Did you try to DELETE them?

I didn't want you to DELETE them, just place a checmark beside both and click Fix checked. Exit HJT and Reboot.

1. Download "Registry Search Tool" (RegSrch.vbs) from here
http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/

2. Start it and paste in NI.UWFX5, wait for it to complete the search, click ok at the prompt.

3. Then when wordpad opens, copy the content back into this thread please.

4. Then do the same with NI.UWFX5RS_0001_0808

GOOD

Please Download the following tools to assist us in removing this infection!
  • Download WinPFind
  • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
  • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
  • Dont do anything with it yet!
Reboot into Safe Mode

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Place those results in the next post!
Reboot back to Normal Mode!

Here are my results from WinPFind:
WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

1. Backup the registry by going to Start>Run> and type "regedit" without the quotes. Then on the file menu choose ‘export’ in XP. Export the file to your Desktop.

If a restore of the registry is required in case of emergency, just click on the exported regfile on your desktop, and answer YES to the question whether you want to merge this file with the registry. Wait until you get a message saying something like Merge Successfull.

2. Launch Notepad, and copy/paste everything in the codebox below into the new document, including the word REGEDIT4. Go up to "File Save As" and click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "All Files" and save it to your desktop as fixme.reg.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"NI.UWFX5RS_0001_0808 "=-
"NI.UWFX5 "=-

3. Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer Yes and wait for a message to appear similar to Merged Successfully.

4. Reboot your computer.

3. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren

when i try to merge i get the following pop up box:
Can not import C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\regedit.reg: Not all data was successfully written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes.

I am not sure if i did something wrong, or if something else happened.
