Rebooting + can't remove pokapoka70.exe [CLOSED]

Hello,

I'm trying to install new development software and the software is saying another application is trying to install, please reboot.

When I looked at Microsoft's website to remove this error, it says to go to :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

registry key and delete all values under:
PendingFileRenameOperations

This is what gets put back over and over again:

Hi DavidHall77 and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. Go to Geeks to Go
. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window. (make sure you have signed in first)
. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. 1. Please download LQfix.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-Click LQfix.exe and click Next > Next > Install.
  • Leave the default settings, if you change them, the fix will Fail!
  • Now make sure the "Launch LQfix" box is checked.
  • Click the Finish button, after clicking the Finish button the fix will start.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts.
  • Your system will now reboot afterwards.
  • Please be patient after the reboot, there is a script running in the background that needs to complete.
2. Now do a scan with HiJackThis and post a new log by using Add Reply

Thanks very much for the advice.

I ran the application and it removed the pokapoka. Then I download the new MS AntiSpiware Beta tool and it got rid of some other ones that Spybot left behind.

Everything seems to be working great... except my Internet Explorer. It doesn't seem to handle https:// websites well. What I mean is that I can log into the website that has this security... but after the main page... it won't work.

Do you have any ideas??

I'll post my latest log file.

Finally!! I got my machine working again!

First of all... got rid of the pokapoka... but had another virus on the machine (Hacktool.rootkit) which installed taskcntr.exe and remon.sys.

On top of that... I had a bad installation of Windows XP SP2... found out that I should have installed Windows Media Player 10 on Windows XP before installing the SP2. The bad installation was preventing IE from working properly as well as some services, the control panel and installing new software...

So I had to remove the SP2 by repairing my Windows XP with the original CD... then installed Windows Media Player 10... then installed SP2, then had to fix this stupid virus thing.

Norton Antivirus kept deleting the file remon.sys, but the file would go back seconds later... I was looking at the services and noticed that I had not seen taskcntr before and disabled it... once I did remon.sys never came back... so I removed both from my system... problem solved...

So, 4 days later... I now have my machine back!

Sorry for the delay... had problems getting online as well.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
  • First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:
    • Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
    • Choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
    • Uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
    • Close the window with ok
  • Please RUN HijackThis.
    . Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

  • Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCpl] rundl32.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [NvCpl] rundl32.exe


  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.

  • Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

    How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
    • Press Enter.
  • Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and DELETE them (if they are present):

    rundl32.exe<==You will have to Search for this one. Pleae note the spelling ( only 1 L)
  • Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

  • Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now.
