I need help, please.

I can access websites using IP addresses, but get a DNS error when using domain names. I can ping IP addresses, but not domains. I can use domain names to access websites when booted up under Safe Mode. I have cleaned and repaired everything I can - Norton found a Trojan which it cleaned and some other stuff that was deleted, I have followed the directions posted (Adaware, CClean, etc.) but am still having no luck. Thanks in advance for your help.

Download WinPFind.zip and unzip the contents to the C:\ folder.

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:

• Restart the computer.
• As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
• Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
• Press the Enter key.

Locate the c:\winpfind\winpfind.exe file and double-click it to run it. Now click the Start Scan button to begin the scan.

When the scan is complete reboot normally and post the WinPFind.txt file (located in the WinPFind folder)

Also try this and let me know if it helps.
Find this file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
and rename it to hosts.bak

Then open a command prompt (Start > Run > Cmd > OK)
and type this command:
ipconfig /flushdns <= Note the space after ipconfig

You should get confirmation of the cache being emptied.

I ran the scan but since I cannot access the internet in regular mode, I am posting it through safe mode. Don't know what difference it might make. When I went to rename the hosts file, there was already one with the ext. bak there. I saved the existing file under a different name and flushed the dns. Was still not able to view websites under regular mode - dns error still.

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so![/quote]

See if this file is gone afterwards:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\saie_kyf.dat
If not, delete it.

Post another HijackThis log when you are done.

My ISP uses DHCP so I don't think I have static DNS server IP addresses. I am still unable to access web pages unless I am in safe mode.

Put in DNS settings and could not access internet in safe mode either. My ISP is BellSouth . . . . the other computer on my network is just fine. Not sure what loads when I go into regular mode that messes with my ability to get the dns info into this computer.

Any thoughts?

On the other computer in your network find this file:

%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk\Rasphone.pbk

Copy that file to the corresponding folder on the computer with the problem, where %SystemDrive% = C:

Rename the old file called C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk\Rasphone.pbk to Rasphone.backup

Reboot and try to make your connection again.

FYI - when I try to access internet, it looks like the error is related to the shdoclc.dll file. Not sure if this will help, but thought you might want to know.
