I'm having trouble removing the winfixer virus....i ran all the programs you suggested and then rebooted and ran hijack this....here is my log

As an introduction, please note that I am not Superhuman, I do not know everything, but what I do know has taken me years to learn. I am happy to pass on this information to you, but please bear in mind that I am also fallible.

Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which will not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions!

You have quite a mixture of malware and Trojans that need to be eradicated. Let’s see what we can do with the first sweep.

Firstly could you please disable Ewido Guard from running during the fix, it may just hinder our attempts to change anything. Open Ewido and uncheck the Guard option.

To start please download the following programmes, we will run them later. Please save them to a place that you will remember, I suggest the Desktop:

Killbox by Option^Explicit
CCleaner
Ad-Aware

Go to Start>Run and type Services.msc then hit OK
Scroll down and find this service:

Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on Properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then OK.

Run HiJackThis. Click on None of the above, just start the program. Now, click on the Config button (bottom right), then click on Misc Tools, then click on Delete an NT Service a window will pop up. Enter this item into that field (copy and paste):

RPC

Click OK.

It should pull up information about the service, when it asks if you want to reboot now click YES

Install Ad-Aware and launch it, ensuring that it is updated first of all..

Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan:

Launch the programme, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.

Click the 'Scanning' button.
Under Drives, Folders and Files, select 'Scan within Archives'.
Click 'Click here to select Drives + folders' and select your installed hard drives.

Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
Click the 'Advanced' button.
Under 'Log-file detail level', select all options.
Click the 'Tweaks' button.

Under 'Scanning Engine', select the following:
'Unload recognized processes during scanning.'
Under 'Cleaning Engine', select the following:
'Let Windows remove files in use after reboot.'
Click on 'Proceed' to save these Preferences.

Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT to allow it to finish.

Right click on this link Del 015 Domains.inf and choose Save (link) As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete it afterwards

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Please now reboot into safe mode. Here's how:

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap the F8 key. A menu should appear where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel (if present):(click Start>Settings>Control Panel)

Viewpoint
Points Manager
iMeshBar

Please notify me of any other programmes that you don’t recognise in that list in your next response

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Please delete these folders (if present) using Windows Explorer:

Please delete this file (if present) using Windows Explorer:

jgdave.exe

Close Windows Explorer and Reboot normally

Please install Killbox by Option^Explicit.

*Extract the programme to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the programme.
*In the Killbox programme, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

*Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

*Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "Yes" at the reboot now prompt..

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

Now we must hide the files we revealed earlier by reversing the process, this is an important safeguard to stop important system files being deleted by accident.

There is almost certainly bound to be some junk (leftover bits and pieces) on your system that is doing nothing but taking up space. I would recommend that you run CCleaner. Install it, update it, check the default setting in the left-hand pane, Analyze, Run Cleaner. You may be fairly surprised by how much it finds. Also click Issues then Scan for issues – fix selected issues

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and I will take another look.

Run HiJackThis. Click on None of the above, just start the program. Now, click on the Config button (bottom right), then click on Misc Tools, then click on Delete an NT Service a window will pop up. Enter this item into that field (copy and paste):

RPC

Click OK.

It should pull up information about the service, when it asks if you want to reboot now click YES

Install Ad-Aware and launch it, ensuring that it is updated first of all..

Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan:

Launch the programme, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.

Click the 'Scanning' button.
Under Drives, Folders and Files, select 'Scan within Archives'.
Click 'Click here to select Drives + folders' and select your installed hard drives.

Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
Click the 'Advanced' button.
Under 'Log-file detail level', select all options.
Click the 'Tweaks' button.

Under 'Scanning Engine', select the following:
'Unload recognized processes during scanning.'
Under 'Cleaning Engine', select the following:
'Let Windows remove files in use after reboot.'
Click on 'Proceed' to save these Preferences.

Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT to allow it to finish.

Right click on this link Del 015 Domains.inf and choose Save (link) As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete it afterwards

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

Now we must hide the files we revealed earlier by reversing the process, this is an important safeguard to stop important system files being deleted by accident.

There is almost certainly bound to be some junk (leftover bits and pieces) on your system that is doing nothing but taking up space. I would recommend that you run CCleaner. Install it, update it, check the default setting in the left-hand pane, Analyze, Run Cleaner. You may be fairly surprised by how much it finds. Also click Issues then Scan for issues – fix selected issues

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and I will take another look.

When i go to sevices...it shows me 3 versions of RPC..RPC, RPC(helper), and RPC(locator)...It let me stop and disable the locator and helper, but it won't let me stop the normal RPC. The button is not active so you can utilize it, therefor it doesn't recognize RPC when trying to delete an NT Service in HiJack This

Don't use it yet!

Restart in Safe Mode

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder.

Restart normally and post the contents of WinPFind.txt

Are you sure the toolbar hasn't been minimised? Go to CONTROL PANEL>TASKBAR AND START MENU.

*Extract the programme to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the programme.
*In the Killbox programme, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

Just to make sure I am up-to-date, your start menu and lower toolbar went missing, but now you have the toolbar back, but no start menu.

What did you do to get the toolbar back?

What have you checked on your PC to get the start menu back?

How about trying a system file check?

Run System File Checker, to make sure all of your protected files are not corrupt. The scan will automatically replace any corrupt files that it finds.

Click Start
Select Run
At the prompt type sfc /scannow Please note that there is a single space between sfc and /scannow.

Typing this will start the programme, and a box should appear telling you how much longer the process should take.

Sometimes the scan will prompt you for your Windows XP disc upon starting the scan. if this happens please make sure that you can view protected files:My Computer
Tools
Folder Options
View
"Uncheck" Hide protected operating system files.
Then rerun the scan.

Once the scan is complete:

Check your Windows Updates! After using the File Protection Service, you might need to reapply some updates.

Please reboot, and let me know if anything has changed.

View

I'm sorry to confuse you, i still don't have a tastbar OR a start menu...nothing came back. I don't know how to go about accomplishing your last reply without a start button, so do you know how i can get to RUN without it
?

Silly me. Of course you can't do that without the right bits on your PC. Let's call it a senior moment.

Right click on this link Taskbar Fix and choose Save (link) As. Save it to your desktop. Double click on that file and it will run. If you get a warning about a script running, allow it.

With a bit of luck, this will restore your taskbar; let me know.

I am still working on your start menu.

Go to Start>Run and type Services.msc then hit OK
Scroll down and find this service:

Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Start button, then click on Properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Manual. Now hit Apply and then OK.

Reboot.

Any better?

Good news....i have my task bar and start menu....but unfortunatly there are still a few other problems....My internet won't let me click on links...i always have to type in the adress, and also theres something wrong with the sound. INstead of standard noises for things it just makes this buzz, and it won't let me play any of my music. I tried to do the last thing you said but it won't open properties

When i go to sevices...it shows me 3 versions of RPC..RPC, RPC(helper), and RPC(locator)...It let me stop and disable the locator and helper, but it won't let me stop the normal RPC.

I was trying to reverse what I think you did here. I am really hoping that you did not delete anything. That last fix, try it on the RPC Helper too if you stopped it.

When you talk about not having links in your internet, I assume that you mean Internet Explorer, i.e. your browser. In which case, you can try a repair. Go to Add and remove programmes in your Control Panel. Find Microsoft Internet Explorer on the list, highlight it and choose Delete, a new window will open and give you the option to repair it. Choose that option.

I have absolutely no idea why your sound doesn't work. Go to your Control Panel again and clcik on System>Hardware>Device Manager. Go down the list to sound video and game controllers. Double click it to open it up. Are there any yellow exclamation marks anywhere? Do the drivers for the sound (on board or PCI card) look OK to you?

Have you altered anything physically?

I am thinking in terms of a system restore back to an earlier date, before your visit here., and take it from there.
