In common with many users posts my PC is infected with Search2web lop. I have run all the recommended checks (CSWShredder, Spybot Search and Destroy) but am still having problems. Whenever I think the problem has been removed it reappears.

My HJT log is:

Hi Nikki-Hunt. Welcome to GTG. :tazz:

See if you can go into add/remove programs and uninstall Messenger Plus 3! and Spyware Doctor.

REboot.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.rinfdfuvn...nzjoB6kHBgs.htm

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {2F4998FF-C5D2-BA99-AFE4-7CA29074086C} - C:\DOCUME~1\Nicola\APPLIC~1\SHIMFL~1\GlobalSend.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe"

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [StupidWayBinArmy] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\More Plan Stupid Way\bold active.exe<<what is this? If you don't need it, check it.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [eachantigluebike] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\poke user each anti\defy once.exe<<what is this???

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [phone poke] C:\DOCUME~1\Nicola\APPLIC~1\1TITLE~1\32 mags.exe<<<what is this???

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe" /WinStart

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Doctor] "C:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\swdoctor.exe" /Q

O9 - Extra button: Spyware Doctor - {2D663D1A-8670-49D9-A1A5-4C56B4E14E84} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYWAR~1\tools\iesdpb.dll

The following are not necessarily spyware/malware, but we suggest you place a check mark next to the following entries, as these programs may be taking up system resources.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [S3TRAY2] S3Tray2.exe
(Description: S3 configuration taskbar applet. Not necessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\WINDOWS\System32\hkcmd.exe
(Description: Intel hotkey applet. Unnecessary. Removing this will free up a small amount of system resources.)

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

C:\DOCUME~1\Nicola\APPLIC~1\SHIMFL~1\
C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3
C:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor

If you are getting rid of those three I questioned you about up above, get rid of these files also:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\More Plan Stupid Way

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\poke user each anti

C:\DOCUME~1\Nicola\APPLIC~1\1TITLE~1

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. ;)

:tazz: Thank you so much for your help and apologies for taking so long to get back to you. My wireless connection wouldn't work (now fixed by installing a new driver) and for some reason my Ethernet port also stopped working. That said the rest of the system now seems perfect - I'd forgotten how quick the machine could be. Thank you again...

As requested, please find attached the current HJT log:

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN :tazz:

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use) Click Here.

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox Posted Image.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. ;)
