In trying to repair and/or remove Office 2003 I received an error message that a registry key cannot be opened HKey\software\microsoft\windows\current version\optional components\msfs. I ran regedit and this folder doesn't even exists. I feel I am missing this folder but don't what application established this or where to get a replacement. This also prevents me from installing Office 2003 SP2.

Try getting the update from Microsoft Update

http://update.micros...t.aspx?ln=en-us

If you want to re-install, use add / remove for the uninstall, then run disc clean up then remove the Office installation files

Download the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility

http://support.micro...kb;en-us;290301

Run it, though make sure you only use it to remove the Office files

then reboot, run disc defragmenter

Install Office and then use Microsoft Update
