Winfixer Virus help and other malware

My computer has Winfixer on it for sure. I think it has some others too. I get random pop-ups that will not go away. I also have some problems with IE now and get a message about a read error in memory.

I use Ad-aware and Spybot regularly. I have also tried CCcleaner. I did an online virus scan and did not find any results. Please help because the only other thing I know how to do is reinstall the entire O/S!

Hi redesess and Welcome to GeekstoGo!

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning.
It should look like this

VundoFix V2.13 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
Press enter to continue....
At this point press enter one time.
Next you will see:

Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
- C:\WINDOWS\system\pslib.dll
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system\bilsp.*
This will be the vundo filename spelt backwards. for example if the vundo dll was vundo.dll you would have the user enter odnuv.*
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system\pslib.dll

After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: [color=red]ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Sorry. I had checked this forum after my post and then didn't check

later; so, it's been a some days since your reply. I followed the

steps you listed but some things apparently had changed.

1. When I VundoFix, after following the steps and HijackThis opening,

I only saw two of the three files you indicated should be fixed. I did

not see "02 - BHO: MSEvents Object ... C:\Windows\system\pslib.dll"

I don't know if this will have messed up what I did in VundoFix when I

entered the filenames you told me to type.

2. After I ran the program, I got an error message. This is what it

said:

3. I could not run ActiveScan. I tried running that online scan from

Panda Software, but after about 2 hours, I find that my computer is

just hanging. I tried three times, and each time I found that 100% of

the CPU is being used for Internet Explorer, which I am using for the

scan. The third time, it did find a spyware program before stopping.

4. IE keeps crashing. Sometimes, I have gotten a message from

Microsoft saying it's a device driver crash.

Hmmm,I only see one bad entry left in the log!

Have HijackThis fix this entry!

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
- Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
- Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK
Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
This will program will start and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
- Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Go back into Safe Mode and generate a HijackThis Startup list log!

Hijackthis StartUp Log:
Open HijackThis,Select Config(Bottom Right)>>>Select Misc Tools>>> Select Generate StartUpList log and make sure that both Boxes beside it are checked:

Put a check by:
List all minor sections(Full)
and
List Empty Sections(Complete)

It will produce a NotePad Page,I need you to post the entire contents of that page to the next post!

Also,lets make sure all the temp files and folders are cleaned out while in Safe Mode!

After restarting in Safe Mode,Configure Windows to Show All Hidden Files and Folders Here is a link to help with that:

Thanks for the help, but I'm having trouble. When I select the file you indicated to be fixed, I get an error message. This is what the error message says:

Since I could not delete that Winfixer file, I held off on virus scan and file deletion you mentioned. What do I need to do to get that delete that stupid file? Thanks

Lets try this-> Click Start-> Run-> Type in cmd and click OK!

Once at the Command Prompt-> Type in cd\ and hit Enter

Next Copy&Paste the bold text below into the Command Prompt and hit Enter!

Download WinPFind:

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!

Once in Safe Mode-> From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder!

I tried your suggestion, but I got a message that says the file wasn't found.

Just in case something happened since your post, I added a fresh HijackThis log below. However, I still see that stupid WinFixer file there! Please let me know if I was supposed to be starting in Safe Mode or otherwise. Thanks for your patience and help.

I forgot to add that I don't have time to do delete the files you suggested and run WinPFind (after trying to delete Winfixer), but I will do that tomorrow.

Copy the text below and save it to the Desktop as Clr.reg but dont run it yet!

Reboot in Safe Mode and then double click Clr.reg and allow it to merge into the registry!

Follow the other steps while in Safe Mode and post back!

I was able to merge the code with the registry, but I still couldn't delete the WinFixer file in Safe Mode. I still got the message that said the file wasn't found.

I also have discovered that IE is almost completely disabled. It runs so slowly that I can barely navigate. Firefox, on the other hand, runs perfectly. I take it Winfixer is specific to IE.

As another problem, the sound driver seems to be messed up. I don't get any sound, but when I start in Safe Mode, I do hear the normal beep. Is this attributable to the viruses as well?

Do you think I'm just going to need to reinstall the O/S. It's going to be a real pain to load all the software again and set up remote access at work and all, but that will clean everything out won't it?

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!

Restart in Safe Mode

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder!

Restart Normal and post the results of WinPFind along with a fresh HijackThis log!

Okay, I ran the online scan you recommended. It took all night, which is why I didn't reply for a bit. I also ran WinPFind in Safe Mode. I attached logs of both and a fresh HijackThis log while running in normal mode.

One other thing, I updated and ran Spybot and AdAware, and Adware detected WinFixer. I hope I didn't mess things up by running those and selecting WinFixer for deletion.

Everything looks fine to me!

Open Internet Explorer-> Click Tools and Click "Reset Web Settings" if the option is available!

The only file I see that bothers me is this one

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\jesterss.dll

But I think its associated with a Flash Player or a screen saver!

Here are the results of the scan. I am confused, though, because isn't that WinFixer2005ScannerInstall[1].exe file still on my computer? Also, should I still delete all the temp files you suggested? Thanks.

MIGHT BE INFECTED/MALWARE (Sandbox emulation took a long time and/or runtime packers were found, this is suspicious. Normally programs aren't packed and don't force the sandbox into lengthy emulation. Do realize no scanner issued any warning, the file can very well be harmless. Caution is advised, however.)

As for WinFixer2005ScannerInstall[1].exe

When it says file could not be found,thats exactly what it means!

Now lets have a closer look at the jesterss.dll

Upload a Copy of that file here

Leave a link to the post and I will have a look at the file!

You can check it out as well by right clicking and seleting properties

Go through all the Info displayed and see if you can associate with something you have on the PC!
