Hi Becky and Welcome to GeekstoGo!

Please download LQfix.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-Click LQfix.exe and click Next > Next > Install.
  • Leave the default settings, if you change them, the fix will Fail!
  • Now make sure the "Launch LQfix" box is checked.
  • Click the Finish button, after clicking the Finish button the fix will start.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts.
  • Your system will now reboot afterwards.
  • Please be patient after the reboot, there is a script running in the background that needs to complete.
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post with a fresh HijackThis log.

LQfix.exe gave this message: LQfirst.bfu and or LQsecond.bfu NOT PRESENT! Please post to forum.

I tried to install Kaspersky after that and that said "Failed to load online scanner activeXcontrol".

Lets so this, locate the LQFix folder and make me a list of everything inside it!

Once you have that, delete that version!

We will go to a different one!

Once the old version is removed, download this one
http://users.telenet...tools/LQfix.zip

Unzip and Extract all Files!

Restart in Safe Mode and run the fix from Safe Mode!

If you tried using any other browser other than Internet Explorer with Kaspersky it wont run!

If you did use IE,then you have to allow the install of the ActiveX components which will be a yellowish bar near the top of IE!

See if that doesnt sort this out!

Crete, after downloading the new version I had two icons - one for oxpspl.exe & one for the LQfix.zip.... what do you mean by "unzip and extract all files" here at this point.... i restarted in safe mode and opened up LQfix.zip which is the same register as before that you asked me to post (below).

Help still... thanks

OK,I think I have managed to confuse the both of us!

Lets do this!

Delete any version of LQFix you have!

Download this version
http://users.telenet...tools/LQfix.zip

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

This will extract all the files within the Zip Folder!

Go into Safe Mode and Open the LQFix folder(Not LQFix.zip)

Inside the LQFix folder, you will see LQFix.bat-> Double Click to execute and allow it to run!

When the dos screen appears and the program has run,you will see "Press any Key to Continue"

Press enter and the dos window will close and the program will be done!

Restart Normal and Post a fresh HijackThis log!

Sorry to pop in here Cretemonster,

Becky, Or you are using a proxy, or you are blocking incoming connections with your firewall, or your norton is deleting the scripts, or you don't download it, but click open from the link itself.

Let's try something else instead. DELETE the LQfix.exe from your desktop!

* Download LQfix.zip
Unzip it and save it to your desktop, don't use it yet!!
Read here how to unzip/extract properly:
http://metallica.gee...xplanation.html
If you did this properly, you'll get a new folder on your desktop with the name LQfix.

REBOOT in safe mode!!! Important!!
°To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

In safe mode, open the LQfixfolder, present on your desktop and you'll see LQfix.bat in it.
Doubleclick LQfix.bat

Reboot back to normal mode and post a new hijackthislog.
If there is something that didn't work, please tell me.
