I have been having problems with IE lately in reference to certan pages opening and other things I was told to make sure under Internet Options/Advanced that the box for Use Passive FTP (for firewall and dsl modem compability) is checked. Should it be? What is the advantages/disadvantages of having it checked or not having it checked? Thanks in advance for your help.

this is basically just a setting related to ftp....if you don't ftp alot....then it shouldn't make a difference, also...if you're not on dsl or behind a proxy...then..it's irrelivant

It's checked on my machine, too...and my daughter's (which is a fresh install)...is this maybe a default setting? I'd check it and see how it goes...you can always revert later.
