Winfixer 2005 popups and initially turns my antivirus off when starting IE.
I have been checking out other posts for help with this annoyance. I would like to submit my hijack this log and get some assistance. Thanks in advance!!!

Hi lauras and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. If you haven't logged in go to Geeks to Go and do so. Then proceed to item a.

If you already have logged in, go directly to item a.

Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window.
In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

4. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

Run HijackThis
Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Your system is currently infected by two manifestations of the VUNDO trojan. When this happens, only one is active at any given time. To fix the problem, we must run the VUNDOFix twice, once for the active one, then, when the first has been killed, we run it a second time to kill its replacement. Don't be alarmed if you are still getting popus during or after the first fix. It is just the second trojan taking over, but only for a short while :tazz:

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Also note, one must be either logged in under the Administrator account or have administrator privileges to be able to successfully complete these procedures

1. Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please REBOOT your computer into Safe Mode.

You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.

- C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssttr.dll
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rttss.*
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.

2. The fix will run then HijackThis will open.

In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:
- O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssttr.dll
  O20 - Winlogon Notify: ssttr - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssttr.dll
After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

3. Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users

[*]Click OK
[*]Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
[*]It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.
[/list]4. Please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan
Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

I got to number 2 when hijack this is to open. norton sent a warning and I allowed the activity once. Then when hijack this opened, the file was not there and there was an error. please advise. Thanks.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please REBOOT your computer into Safe Mode.

You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.
it should look like this

By pressing enter you agree that you are using this at your own risk
Please seek assistance at one of the following forums:

At this point press enter one time.

Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below

- C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtutt.dll
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ttutv.*
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.

2. The fix will run then HijackThis will open.

In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.

Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

3. Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users

Also note, one must be either logged in under the Administrator account or have administrator privileges to be able to successfully complete these procedures

I sure hope we are gwtting somewhere. I am concerned that the active scan now shows 3 spyware programs. Please advise!!!

Hi Laura,

To answer some of your questions and to stop you from worrying needlessly, here goes:

1. The fact that part of vundo.fix is missing is nothing to worry about. Please delete all items pertaining to VundoFix. Vundo is gone from your log.

2. None of the items picked up by ActiveScan are real spyware:

a. Using Windows Explorer: Delete the following : C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES\dm.inf (This file in bold)

b> The third is in your system restore cache, so harmless and the cache will be cleaned out at the end of these procedures.

3. So while you are doing the above, I will prepare the next set of instructions for you.

Surprise, your log is now clean but just to make sure everything is OK throughout your system, I would like you to:

Please follow the instructions provided, you may want to print out these instructions and use them as a reference.

Please download ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
- Install ewido security suite
- When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
- Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
- The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
- The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
- On the left hand side of the main screen click update
- Click on Start
- The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
- REBOOT into Safe Mode
- Run EWIDO
- Click on scanner
- Click on Start Scan
- Let the program scan the machine
- While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
- Click Save report
- Save the report to your desktop
Reboot your machine and post back a new HJT log and the ewido .txt log file you saved by using Add Reply

So let me see if I have this straight.

You want me to completely delete any vundo fix programs and files.

How do I find and delete the file...dm.inf. I dont know how to find it.??!!
I really appreciate your timely responses and your invaluable knowledge and help!!!!!
