Let me get this strait, you what to stop your kids form using the internet when they are not doing there chores? I know this might sound a bit ironical, me being about the same age as your kids in all likely hood, but what ever happened to disciplining them? Besides that you could make a .bat or java script that stops their internet connection, I am not up to writing scripts but it can be done by those that know who to write them. There is an off button on a computer that works very well and is worth using.

well I don't mind them using the chat when there is no homework to be done, or when all their chores are finished...so would rather be able to just have a simply method where I can enable a setting on the router and it would shut the program down/disconnect it. The SMC doesn't appear to have any method of blocking via a MAC address.

Easiest way to not let them use the computer is to disconnect the power cord from the computer and from the wall and take and hide the cord somewhere. I doubt they will be able to find another one. Then when they are done with HW and chores, you can give them back the cord and they can do what they wish. It's alot easier then trying all these fancy scripts and such that the kids will probably find a way around anyways by asking other kids at school who know how to bypass such things. Just my thoughts. Didn't mean to break in on the conversation.

Discipline? In todays age governments don't allow you to properly discipline them, if I got a kick in the [bleep] when I didn't get it the first time that was the end of it. This would be a topic in itself right...

I have pulled the power cord a few times, but this is not much good when they need to use Word or something to do homework etc.

got 5 machines on the network tho...but I will shop around for the features on other routers, might break down and get an 8 port one anyways, right now have an 8 port switch along with the 4 port router and suspect this arrangement is causing some probs with certain games the wife plays
